Matter over Wi-Fi is probably how I'll go for this application. The spec is a mess and the implementations are all over the place. But for a simple switchable plug, it will do the job.

After looking at the Matter over Wi-Fi protocol a few weeks ago, it's a mess. There's a reason I reverse engineered a BLE protocol for what I was working on and deployed a dedicated bridge.

On the other hand for a plug, Matter will be fine for me.

Apparently these old WeMo plugs need to connect to something on the internet to keep working despite Belkin killing all services for them and working firewalled off the net for years.

This has killed any mood I was in and time to just put something stupid on TV and worry about all of this tomorrow.
