Spain, Ireland and Netherlands to boycott Eurovision after Israel retains place Major European nations pull out of song contest after calling for country’s exclusion over conduct of war in Gaza

Russia was removed from Eurovision in 2022 over its invasion of Ukraine, but Israel is still allowed to compete despite being an apartheid state committing a genocide in Gaza.

Good on Spain, Ireland, and the Netherlands. I’m sure they won’t be the last to announce a boycott.

Excellent design work, #Apple. Fantastic attention to detail.

BTW are you hiring for your design team? I have zero experience, I think I'd be an excellent candidate.

Why electrification, not repealing green laws, will save Europe's industry According to Oxford professor of energy Jan Rosenow, rapid electrification of Europe's industry, not rolling back the EU's Green Deal, will save European industry.

Electrification + efficiency — not rolling back climate policy — is the real path to a competitive European industry.

High fossil fuel prices hit industry hardest, not the Green Deal. Undermining clean-energy commitments would only push investment elsewhere.

COP30 Is on Fire Flames have erupted in the “Blue Zone” at the United Nations Climate Conference in Brazil.

An disturbingly apt metaphor.

Verra recently announced that more than half of the credits from the Kariba REDD+ project don’t represent real climate benefits. Our new commentary explains why carbon market participants should treat Verra’s proposed solution to excess crediting with skepticism.

Oh absolutely, I'm still using Svelte, at least for now. I'd like to see Rich Harris' response to this, though...

6 months ago 0 0 0 0

I really hope @rich-harris.dev is able to leave. I've always liked and respected Rich, it would suck to see him stay at a company which openly supports genocide.

6 months ago 1 0 0 0

Damn. I'd even been thinking of switching to Vercel since they've been supporting Svelte and other good projects. Not anymore. They will not get a penny of my money in the future.

Cosying up to a genocidal war criminal, man.

It’s the Vercel employees I feel most sorry for here. Working there is nothing but shame and a lot will be trapped there.

Do everything to help them move on if you can.

In Chile I was told about an activist had been shot dead by salmon farm workers while swimming around a farm to document illegal practices.

The workers claimed they thought he was a seal.
They were acquitted.

The salmon farming giants are dragging Don Staniford through the courts to shut him up. This is the same industry that spied on him with ex-paratroopers - just for exposing the truth: salmon farming is cruel and cruel filthy business and does enormous environmental harm.

From things I've seen recently, I think many people would benefit from reading this. It's short, and it's free.

I keep giving LLMs a chance to impress me, whenever I encounter a boring task that they should be good at, and they keep shitting the bed. Not like 'this was too hard a problem for fancy autocomplete' shitting the bed, like 'randomly deleting swathes of code' shitting the bed

UK maps showing changes in temperatures for typical summer days and hot summer days.

1°C of global warming does NOT mean that heatwaves 'just' get hotter by 1°C.

Over large parts of the UK, global warming means that heatwaves are 3-4°C warmer, with worse consequences for people and ecosystems.

One question for AT Proto as a blog backend is whether users will want a single record in their PDS that works across Bluesky clients and custom platforms. In that case, a custom “full-length post” embed inside Bluesky’s own lexicon seems to make the most sense. I don’t want to reinvent the wheel.

At least 45 Palestinians are reported to have been killed in Khan Younis while waiting for trucks carrying relief supplies. Many are also reported to have been injured.

The Israeli military has not yet commented on the incident.

Israel hasn't stopped gunning down the Palestinians they're starving, as those Palestinians try to feed themselves

There is nothing wrong with continuing to say it: these are war crimes, this is genocide, this is murder. It must be stopped, and those perpetrating the crimes must be held accountable

Imagine humanity was facing the biggest threat it ever had, but luckily, a bunch of really smart people had been working for decades to understand the danger and all the ways we could respond.

Now imagine the most unhinged, sociopathic thing the government could do in that situation.

Guess what?
