Restoring truly independent and trustworthy public service media in Hungary is going to require constant vigilance and a lot of work.
Todella riippumattomien ja luotettavien tiedotusvälineiden palauttaminen vaatii jatkuvaa valppautta ja paljon työtä.
Puolassa kymmenen vuotta myöhemmin yleisradioyhtiö TVP lakkautettiin. Myöhemmin käynnistettiin uusi ohjelmatarjonta – joka taipuu kuitenkin usein kulloisenkin hallituksen linjaan.
Kun julkinen yleisradioyhtiö suljettiin Kreikassa vuonna 2013, sen korvaaja oli niin epäsuosittu, että vanha palvelu palautettiin kaksi vuotta myöhemmin, ja sen henkilökunta koostui samoista ihmisistä kuin aiemmin. Sitä syytetään säännöllisesti hallituksen äänitorveksi.
We've been through this process before with Greece (2013) and Poland (2023) and both times the wildly partisan newsrooms were swept aside with much fanfare - only to be replaced with new services that often acted as convenient and uncritical mouthpieces for the government of the day.
