My theory is no species develops unless there are sufficient resources for it. There may be temporary shortages due to disasters or something, but in general resource constraints don’t exist. Every species has what it needs to survive.
Thanos is just comic-book Thomas Malthus, which gives an intellectual veneer to his genocide. But like Malthus, his rationale was absurdly off base.
