The pandemic and telework turned me into a backyard birder. I obviously feed the blackcap chickadees, red polls, jays, nuthatches, and woodpeckers. They’ve been around thru the winter. Other recent sightings include spruce grouse, boreal chickadees, a bald eagle, and today a flock of snow buntings.

Sweet. I always wanted a reel-to-reel. I still have the Yamaha amp from olden times.
In the end 20m was the only band open during CQMM. I made a few more than 200 Qs, mostly EU in the AM local time. It was just as well, because I had time restrictions. The band didn’t really open to South America. I did snag Venezuela and Brazil, but the usual suspects in CE and LU couldn’t hear me.
Well yeah. The only other common options were 8 track and cassette in the glory days of vinyl. There’s no comparison.
Try a quad loop stuck to the inside of an exterior wall. I used to have good luck when I was an apartment dweller. 10m is funny, though. It seems almost everything is near a 1/4 wave long.
I might have a no-thank-you bite, but I’m telling ya, bubblegum anything except for actual gum is not for me. Licorice? Oh hell no. I will eat almost anything else, including Icelandic fermented shark (hákarl).
FYI the NOAA POES spacecraft have been decommissioned. No more APT transmissions. METEOR-M N-3 and -4 transmit digital LRPT on 137.9 with 137.1 as alternate.

Congratulations!
Horrible today in KL. Yesterday, too. The only band open at times was 20m. Yuck.
Yikes
That’s pretty special. Well done!
Greetings from Two Rivers, Alaska. Forecast: snow and redpolls.
20m is/was the only band with any signals here. I worked a few dozen EU starting about 1730z. The band only got worse. I took a lot of breaks. At the end around around 00z even stations with S5-7 signals couldn’t hear me. Anytime Kp is > 3 the outbound absorption is bodacious.
So….I guess it’s good some last-minute obligations cropped up, because HF propagation absolutely SUX today. Kp index is not cooperating.
Remarkable woman, for sure.
Wherever you are, you need Cherokee Death Cats in your playlist. youtu.be/e_by9YY9ioA
P.S. N scale is by far my favorite.
Suhweet!
Oh shit.
Tech bros have naively invested a ginormous amount of money in AI without any rigorous business modeling and ignoring its serious limitations. By golly, they’re gonna get an ROI sooner rather than later no matter the outcome for society.
CQMM Contest certificate certifying KL2R operating in multi-single category, ranked #1 in Alaska, #4 in North America, and #11 World. Operators were KL0D and N1TX.
I spotted a bald eagle this afternoon soaring above the intersection of Nordale and Chena Hot Springs Road between Fairbanks and Two Rivers. While not rare, bald eagles are far less common in this area than other parts of Alaska. I take the sighting as a good omen.
Yes, he did.
Yes he did.
"You're just voluntarily complying with this whimsical cosplay" -- holy shit, Tim Kaine is *demolishing* Russ Vought
Alaska has coverage issues, too.
Who’s going to be on the air for CQMM DX Contest this weekend? Last year I operated with KL0D as a multi-single. We had a lot of fun. I’ll give an earnest effort as single op. Listen for KL2R handing out NAM in the exchange. www.cqmmdx.com
100% agree.
To say I was disappointed this morning with light snow tickling my face would be a gross understatement. I dislike April overall. The chilly dampness really makes my bones ache. I got through the deep freeze just fine. I had higher expectations for Feb/Mar. April seems particularly sadistic, though.
Wow, gorgeous. Impressive talent!
