Cattington IV - Catfish - He might be a CEO of a company who is worth millions of dollars but he is just like you! Stuart - Quokka - A perpetually smiling Sectional Manager. He tackles every problem with motivational corporate speak intended to maximize collaboration and synergies among all employees. Transcript Panel 1 Iris and Stuart are showing their boss some fancy new numbers on a fancy tablet. The tablet makes the numbers feel extra fancy. He seems pleased by them and explains what he wants to happen next. Catrick: Good numbers! Let's pivot our telecommunications to touch base with core demos. Stuart: Yes, sir! Panel 2 Catrick begins to leave and finalizes his instructions. Catrick: Circle back after my bandwidth consultation. Streamline those CRMs. Stuart: On it! Panel 3 Iris and Stuart stare at the door. Iris has her usual cranky expression while Stuart is grinning far harder than usual. This is a good sign that Stuart is not having a great day. Panel Iris decides that she needs to ask the big question. Iris: What exactly does he want us to do? Stuart: I DON'T KNOW! I Work Very Hard, And I Would Like To Try Cake By A Horse Hello. I am a horse. I work very hard at my job of being a horse. When humans say move the heavy thing, I move the heavy thing. When humans sit on top of me and pull on my head, I carry them where they want to go. The main food the humans give me is hay and oats. But I am thinking it would be nice to have a different food. I am thinking I would like to try cake. Yes, yes. Cake. I know all about it. When humans eat cake, it is in glad times. It is the food for a celebration, such as when a woman becomes 47. I have seen cake on the Fourth of July. When humans have a cake, they stand around it and clap hands and smile and say happy birthday at each other. Sometimes there are beautiful markings on a cake, such as balloons or a pink shape. Sometimes the top of a cake is on fire and a boy must blow on the fire with mouth wind. This is the scariest cake. I do not want this kind. But I will eat any other cake. Any cake that is not the fire cake that tries to kill the boy. Please understand: I do not get money for doing work. I do not get to go inside the house. All I am either doing my horse job or standing in my pen or eating food off the floor. I always do these things. But I have never once gotten cake and I would like it very much. I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children. I am more helpful to the farm. Children do not move the heavy things like me or let anyone ride on them. And yet they get cake. Maybe the humans will realize this. Maybe they will say, "You know who deserves cake? That horse. That horse whose back we are always on." Every day I dream about what it will be like if I get to eat cake. Here is what will happen. First, I will walk to the cake and putt my nose at it like hrrfff to make and stomping my hooves to make sure it is not a snake. Then I will trot in a circle to show that I am a horse and I am large. The horse op-ed is an instant classic. I can't tell you how much joy this piece gives me.

It should be taught in every introductory writing class in no small part because the horse arguments are so compelling. "I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children."

Sniff Sniff - Gator Days Characters Hannah - Goat - A highly competitive kid. She strives to be the best and to be helpful to others. Daryl and Seth's daughter. Titan - Dog - Animal - A blind dog belonging to Hannah's neighbor. She regularly takes him out to walk or play. Transcript Panel 1 Hannah is taking Titan out for a walk when he finds an interesting smell. Hannah doesn't think much of it. Hannah: Found something interesting, Titan? Titan: Sniff Sniff. Panel 2 Titan starts look around and Hannah decides to wait until he's done. She understands that smelling is Titan's way of seeing the world. Hannah: Take your time. Titan: Sniff Sniff. Panel 3 Hannah looks around while she waits for Titan to finish. This might take awhile. Why does time move slower in moments like this? Is time even real? Sometimes Hannah feels like time moves painfully slow. Every moment feels like it's a panel in some sort of comic and it's almost like she's frozen in that moment for all eternity. Perhaps time is simply an illusion to protect her fragile mind from these moments that seem like eternity. Perhaps she will exist in this moment forever while there are other versions of her existing forever in their own moments. She's also wondering what's for dinner. Real Life - Gator Days Characters Terry - Bear - The drummer for Fork Fight. Happy to be included. Shirt Kyle - Rabbit - The bassist and back up vocalist for Fork Fight. Perpetually wearing a shirt and annoyed. Shirtless Kyle - Raccoon - The guitarist and lead vocalist for Fork Fight. Perpetually shirtless and yells a lot. Transcript Panel 1 Fork Fight has a gig and they're bringing all their stuff to the stage. Terry is carrying a box that says "Property of Fork Fight" and Kyle has one that says "Music Stuff". It's all very important stuff that bands need. Like, thousands of guitar picks. I'm pretty sure it's mostly guitar picks. Terry: When I was little, my brother and I would pretend to be in a band. Shirt Kyle: Hm. Shirt Kyle is completely uninterested. Panel 2 Terry ignores the disinterest and continues on about his adventures with his big brother. Terry: We'd pretend to travel all over and solve mysteries. Being in a real band is pretty different. Panel 3 Shirtless Kyle has no time for these fuzzy childhood memories. He has a big problem and needs answers now! He climbs on the box Terry just brought in to yell at him. There is a poster in the background for the venue. It's called "The Noise Pit" and the poster advertises drinks, music, and hearing loss. Shirtless Kyle: Solve the mystery of who ate my burrito! Terry: You did. Five minutes ago. Panel 4 Shirtless Kyle is awestruck. He did eat it didn't he? Maybe his doctor was right about the sleep deprivation. Shirtless Kyle: WHOA! I thought that was a dream. Terry: Reality is often disappointing. Terry stares in the distance and remembers the games he used to play with his brother. Being in a band looks a lot more glamorous before you're actually in a band.

The Tree on the Corner - Gator Days Characters August - Alligator - A soft spoken single father who works in IT. Gustopher's dad. Gustopher - Alligator - An easily excitable child who loves making friends. August's son. Panel 1 Gustopher and his dad are taking a walk when Gustopher notices a tree trunk on the corner where a big tree used to be. He stares and it for a moment and contemplates the fact that it's gone. Panel 2 Gustopher goes to his dad who is preoccupied with something on his phone. He asks about the tree. Gustopher: Why did they cut down the tree on the corner? August keeps his eyes on his phone but responds to Gustopher. August: It was rotting and a safety hazard. Panel 3 Gustopher looks back at the stump. He understands the reason why it would need to be cut down but he liked the tree. Gustopher: I guess that's good. Is it weird that it makes me feel sad? August senses the sadness and Gustopher's voice and puts down his phone. He looks at the stump as well. Panel 4 August puts his hand on Gustopher's shoulder. August: That's not weird. It makes me feel sad too. The two of them take a moment a moment to process the emotion. It's not severe or intense but it's still there.
