Our latest paper found a number of risk factors for mother-infant responsiveness. Mitigating these cumulative risks and preventing reduced mother-infant responsiveness through adequate resources, education, and tailored support is crucial in the First 1001 days.

😅 I think I might use the phrase "nuanced and complex" more than any other when it comes to this subject! It's fantastic to see so much work coming to light, but studies must be mindful in the current climate. I appreciated that their recommendations were balanced and considered modern family life

Really interesting limitations in terms of what may have been interpreted as screen time - e.g., like you say loud screen time rather than total screen time. Hard to differentiate background noise (a tv is on but noone is watching it) vs screen time. I also wonder about music or audio books?

Technology isn’t inherently bad. We just need to be reflective about how we use it. @peteetchells.bsky.social summarises perfectly why panic fuelled research can lead us nowhere!

Results suggest participants with poorer mental health, or those that have concerns about their infant's development, make up two groups of mothers who are likely to demonstrate higher levels of smartphone use, and who also feel less responsiveness between themself and their baby
