Bumped into someone I taught in Year 9 through to her history A-level onto Durham. Now working in advertising. This happens more and more the longer you’re in teaching and is such a good advert for staying in schools. It’s so special.

Our 1st Xmas with Imogen & whenever we reach a milestone like this I’m reminded of how important teaching, schools & teachers are.
Families entrust us with their most precious people. I think it’s important we embrace the weight of this.

@lilystaff.bsky.social English Lead at Reach Academy Hanworth Park has written a Children's Commissioner blog about their Reading Programme's success. We're so proud of our pupils! www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/news-and-blo... Join our education community here: reachschools.uk/reach-out/
Yesterday we took over 100 aspiring headteachers to @reachschools.bsky.social and it was pretty astonishing.
Huge thanks to Rebecca Cramer, Tilly Browne, Louis Everett and Manjit Moore along with all of the staff, pupils and wider community in Feltham.
The schools are very, very special.
High expectations, warm-strict and school fun enough to get 98% attendance last year.
Find out how on my latest blogpost for Reach Out below!
Find out how we’ve established a culture of high expectations and excellent behaviour on my latest blogpost on our Reach Out page.

At Reach Academy Hanworth Park we are building a culture where loving to read is the norm. Read more about how we do this in my blog for the Children's Commissioner which reflects on our pupils' reading achievements.

Week one done and never felt so lucky to be a teacher.
I wrote about why in the summer holiday.

Join us in teaching for moments like my newborn baby’s Uber ride back from St Mary’s hospital.
Teaching will always produce these moments because of how much it matters to families and communities.

In 2015, I decided to invest time in learning what the schools with the best exam outcomes do. It was probably the most important decision I made in my career. These schools have a lot more in common than they do differences & many of these things can be adopted straight away in any context.

From my latest blogpost on my love of teaching and how with its challenges it’ll always be so worth it.
Teachers matter and being entrusted with others’ children is the greatest privilege.
It leads to moments like my little Imogen’s first Uber!
What a great piece - completely agree with @LouisEverett1 that teaching remains a wonderful and rewarding profession
We need so much more of this sort of positivity in the national conversation about education

Look at this video of our children talking about the books they love! ALL our children now love reading but only 36% of them were reading at or above their chronological reading age in Sept. One of the major successes of this founding year!

@lilystaff.bsky.social
Really proud of the progress our Year 7s have made with reading this year! In September only 37% were at or above their reading age compared with 75% now. Short thread below on how we have achieved this. 🧵
We’ve now completed our final Year 7 reading test for our founding cohort.
In Sept 18% joined us 5 years below their reading age, now 1 child. Just 37% were at or above their reading age now 75%.
Bravo @lilystaff.bsky.social

Hear from @lilystaff.bsky.social about the amazing progress our children are making in their reading. So many came to us saying they hated reading. Each now are reading 3 books independently & talk about them constantly. It’s really special.

In Sept 19% of our Year 7 were 5 years below their reading age on entry, now 6%. Just 37% were working at or above their chronological reading age now 56%.
