Really, who were those masked men? New series of books probes backstories of Marvel superheroes If you love movies or comics, you’ve likely followed the adventures of Spider-Man, Iron Man and other superheroes.

I cannot WAIT for you to read my new book - a chronicle of Doctor Strange's first 10 years, mixing comics history, East Village history, criticism, and memoir. And I'm honored to be in this group of writers, too. apnews.com/article/marv...

I see a lot of Darwyn Cooke in the show's style, especially the women's wider faces?

Post image Comics colours (1970's) on newsprint.

Comics colours (1970's) on newsprint.

This is the example I always use when this subject comes up; the colourists knew what the end result would look like and coloured accordingly. So the sky on the original looked like dusk. The reprint uses the exact same colour codes, but the sky looks like a sunny day when it's not on newsprint.

Nowlan’ a choice makes sense in context: Dr Doom is not a regular in Dr Strange and his first appearance on the story is therefore an establishing shot to show Doom’s world to Dr Strange readers. The reverse is true in Fantastic Four so Byrne’s storytelling choices makes sense in a Doomcentric issue

1 year ago 0 1 1 0

Or maybe Nowlan's page moves in, conveys increasing tension, and mirrors Doom's thought process of increasingly focusing towards his ultimate decision? [4/3]

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

Nowlan's art does the reverse, starting with a wide kingdom shot and houses, moving in closer to Doom, and ending with a close-up on Doom. It's lovely and stage-setting, maybe the contrast is an art choice, but since it's in the reverse of Doom's inward-to-outward thinking, IMO it's weaker. [3/3]

Byrne's art mirrors the scope of the thinking. We get the eyes close-up, but the overall page is moving away from Doom, with the ending panel panning out with a wider shot of the houses and the kingdom he decides he must guide. [2/3]

I think Byrne's page is better. Maybe he had the benefit of response or more time to think about the page?

Doom's thought process starts inward and selfish ("How can I chump Strange?"), then proceeds outwards ("No, I can't, my kingdom needs me."). [1/3]

I don't recall ever knowing that the content of the Doctor Strange #57 Stern/Nowlan page reappeared again in Fantastic Four #258 reimagined by Byrne?! Wow TIL

Today I’m embarking on a journey that I’ve been anticipating for years! I’m headed to the Library of Congress to have one-on-one time with Steve Ditko’s original art pages for Amazing Fantasy #15!

I still can’t believe these exist and that I’m able to interact with them like this…
