I've seen it during shrimp harvests. Consider how what you eat and buy affects the integrity of the natural world.

Amazing!
As one should do always.
Enjoy! I hope that it's a great event.
I've only tasted frozen durian, but would like to try fresh fruit!

Hickories decked out in their best spring attire: left, shagbark hickory (Carya ovata) and right, shellbark hickory (C. laciniosa).
IME these species produce the best-flavored and easily accessible hickory nuts in central NC. π π±

Well here's a little ray of sunshine. Does this mean that I can distill spirits in my home now?
A fruit growers dream: fortified wines and apple brandy within reach!

Beautiful!
Repair it when you have a use for it.
Terrible loss for all of us.
Absolutely! We often discuss how much better we feel when there is a fire going in the firebox during the coldest days of winter. A deep comfort.
Really interesting! Thanks for posting.
I hope not, but it's an unneeded burden on states for sure.
A serious setback for disease control: on 3/31 CDC eliminated laboratory testing for some pathogens and parasites.
This leaves underfunded state health departments responsible for detecting rabies and monkeypox--diseases that require rapid interventions to limit spread.

This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

Sci NC produced this great piece on bees- "What's killing the bees and who's fighting back".
I'm honored to have been included and to be given the opportunity to bring some attention to our native bees too!

Red cornelian cherry fruits hang from a leafy branch.
Bright yellow, lacy petals of cornelian cherry blossoms.
Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas) is blooming now in my North Carolina orchard. An ancient super-food from Eurasia, it is an easy-care edible addition to the sunny or partially-shaded landscape.
Farmers take another blow. A reminder that nitrogen fertilizer costs track oil prices in the best of times. This year the supply chain around the Strait of Hormuz is also crippled just as the growing season begins in northern US and Canada.

Apparently, its not only cyanobacteria that are amazing organisms, full of surprises, but cyanobacteria 'predators', too!

I reading your post with my pitty's head glued to my lapπ
For the health and longevity of the tree, it's always good to remove almost all flowers until the tree is well established, then manage it for a light fruiting load until it has a stout scaffold of branches.
Those beech leaves release reluctantly as buds swell.
Yes! Sometimes very awkward scenes among colleagues while adhering to the rules about gifts. π
I wish that I'd attended! I used to live near the Farmington in the valley. When they renovated roads in the center of Avon, the archaeology teams thankfully preceded the heavy equipment.
