De rigeur probably not exactly the right phrase there, but on reflection I quite like the unexpected implications

I mean it was 100% not any attic I've ever seen, let alone possessed, but that's de rigeur for dreams right, the duality of "this is not mine in any recognisable way except, somehow, emotionally"

Always a big fan of crafting entire edifices around a single pun. That sort of commitment is too often lacking in these days of ironic detachment and plausible deniability over investment in anything.

Had a dream about a dream about my late father-in-law last night, wherein his spirit visited to tell me where to find some things in the attic, and it all feels weirdly meaningful given that neither he nor the meta dream have ever figured for me before. Weirdly discombobulated as a result.

Duolingo has many flaws, I'm sure, but it sure does know its audience when it teaches you "I want to quit" as the first sentence in a module on discussing work

Sex test used in IOC’s new transgender ban more likely to exclude from Olympics intersex women who were assigned female at birth Genetic testing is now required to participate in women’s events in the Olympics. But the new policy oversimplifies biological sex and risks discrimination against some female athletes.

“Sex testing has switched from genitals to genes to testosterone levels, and now back to genes. While the stated goal for these policies was to uncover males pretending to be female, they have never found any. Instead, they identified and excluded intersex women.”

Sex testing in sport harms women.

Yeah, not bad! Work life is very busy, but mostly it's just being in a healthier place with social media and existing more in real life than online. How's you?

I get some weird ADHD earworms sometimes, but singing "Euripides, Euripides!" to the tune of O Christmas Tree is a bit odd even for me. No idea how it came about.

If you're not trans, please take a couple of minutes to skim through the linked blog post.

It's an overview of (some of) the questions trans kids and their parents will have to through, just to participate in the NHS puberty blocker trial.

I won't make any further comment here.

Really, deeply loved this one, and if I were going to do all the layers of it real justice in the outro I'd have had to take a year to write it. It resonated in so many ways for me, some of which I can't even name.

PodCastle 918: Waterways - PodCastle Waterways by Diana Dima     When his father died and left him the boat, he thought to himself, I can do it. I’m a boat-son, a boat-man, I’m no longer a child and no longer have to go home at sunset, w...

New story up at PodCastle! I can't describe "Waterways" better than @mattdovey.com: "like a dream, like something told to you on a too-hot-day where you’re not quite in focus". Thank you Matt for the gorgeous narration & kind words, and @podcastle.org for featuring it podcastle.org/2025/11/18/p...

I was raised by two grandmas on home baked mince pies and in 35 years of eating them I have never had to use a goddamn teaspoon before

Lovely wife got some fresh baked mince pies from the bakery and they're... just a lid? What am I meant to do, eat it in the fucking foil? Mind-blowing

Scream mask on a black background

Scream mask on a black background

This zine was not created by AI. It took me a year to write, from early 2023 to early 2024. I spent several more months agonizing over edits, desperately rephrasing sentences out of coherence and back again. Even with all of that work, it isn't perfect. It will never be perfect. I will never be perfect. Imperfect people will read it and I love that for us.

This zine was not created by AI. I wrote it and rewrote it during a really hard time in my life. Many times, it seemed like I'd turned 40 and had been unceremoniously dropped back to Square One by life. I couldn't see how I could make anything work. So, I made a zine.

This zine was not created by AI. Every time I almost gave up, I worked through it instead. By the time it was finished, it felt like a small epiphany for how I wanted to make art going forward.

This zine was not created by AI. Finishing it was a gift I gave myself when I felt devalued and defeated. It's a love letter to myself, horror movies, and I guess to all of us.

People still constantly bring up my AI Statement page in the Scream zine. Some folks say it made them cry! I was going to be more eviscerating but instead felt the best way to make my point was just to be totally raw and vulnerable in a way AI can't be. sara-century.square.site

Currently sat with a pint at the back of the main hall, just off the bar area on upper ground, if anyone is about?

Ah, pre-con social anxiety, my least favourite part of the weekend. Knowing it will be fine in three hours is no use right now, alas. Stupid brain.

Probably be registered for World Fantasy and inside around an hour from now, so maybe see some of you about?
