It’s very abstract stuff and it makes a lot more sense in a weird way if you actually believe in a God or the God in a traditional sense of the term as something beyond any government, person or time or place. Something that is completely universal and self evident.

God given rights are aspirational meaning that a power beyond any one government “ grants” them. Be that God or what ever you wants to call it. A government can enslave and dehumanize you but they can’t ever made you not a human being and all human beings have certain rights.
