Just published ! Two chapters encapsulating the idea of constrained brain energy metabolism that lies at the heart of brain vulnerability in aging, development and stress. Result of a week's hard work at the Ernst Strüngmann forum.

New paper showing a key component of the glutamate-glutamine cycle. NTT4 (SLC6A17) supplies Gln for the presynaptic production of Glu. Needed to sustain rapid ongoing excitatory synaptic transmission and has roles in memory formation and other behaviours.

Nice! Where’s the rest of it?
Happy to have helped (skyless) Alistair Carroll publish the first paper from his PhD research. There’s more to come!
Interested in how maternal stress affects the offspring’s brain? Come and do a PhD with us in beautiful Edinburgh. More info here: www.findaphd.com/phds/project...
Interesting. Seems to need relatively high levels of R-BHB.
Time to (re)join for all neurochemists!👇👇👇👇👇👇
Glad to see her in the seat!💕
Can verify that it is lovely. I gave one to an astrocyte aficionado but it was hard parting with it….
Tough but quality..

Just published a little paper about the role of L-Proline in brain metabolism. It stimulates mitochondrial metabolism but doesn't seem to do it by being metabolised (under the conditions studied). Yet another unsolved mystery in brain energy metabolism... Scratches head....

Thanks for underlining this really important support initiative @zilamartinezlozada.bsky.social
The ISN www.neurochemistry.org has support for carers sewn into its grant and travel schemes + special support for travel to the biennial meeting.
Next one is in fantastic New York city in 2025.
Sodium dysregulation may play a role in Alzheimer's disease with links to increased amyloid-dependent tau pathology, neurodegeneration, and cognitive impairment. Sodium channel subunits (SCN2B &3B) showed strongest correlation with hippocampal volume and cognitive function
