Okhota (the Hunt) appears in lands that are particularly rich in game. His presence can be felt through ritual figurines, skillfully carved from bone or stone birch (betula ermanii). These figurines, often left on the ground as offerings, embody the Okhota’s spirit and serve as a reminder of the need to respect his domain.
Although Okhota is not a deity, he nevertheless occupies an important place in the cultural life of some tribes, who worship him and bring him traditional gifts: ripe rosehip berries and fragrant lingonberry leaves. These offerings are seen as a sign of respect and hope for his favor.
Despite his peaceful nature, Okhota can show anger if the boundaries of his hunting grounds are violated. Poachers, driven by a thirst for wealth, risk their lives by trespassing on his territory, and most of them simply disappear without a trace. In order to challenge his right to the land, people often engage in a duel with him, from which they rarely emerge victorious.

n. tepidus
