Just because you read dark romance does not mean that gives you an excuse not to read diversely. There are tons of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ and fat-positive dark romances out there.

throwing queer erotica authors under the bus when queer sex has been stigmatized for decades and continues to be stigmatized as another queer author is loser shit and you should stop doing that. "but payment processors-" are a problem i agree, blame them instead of your peers making legal material!
With the rise in AI-generated book covers, there's a certain comfort to be found in seeing the same models' faces over and over again. That one silver fox looking to the left. The dude with the giant sideburns and the red-headed woman he's often with. The dark-haired gal in the white bikini.
I wish people cared about the first amendment rights of authors and artists who are getting their works banned in schools and libraries across the USA as much as they care about the rights of white male comedians to be on national TV

Gonna go even further: don't refer to it as "consuming media" when doing this. You aren't a consumer - it's not a product. You read books. You look at art. You watch movies and/or videos. Be careful about word choice.
Reject "consume" and REJECT "CONTENT."
IT IS ART.
YOU ARE ENGAGING WITH ART.
An abstract illustration of yellow flowers against a blue background. The white text reads: Need a mental health break? I have free cozy stories full of plants and cute robots
A cover of green leaves and pink and purple black eyed Susan flowers. The title says Extended Forecast, Al Hess
A tan cover with multicolored abstract fern fronds and tulips. The title reads: The Elopement of Atticus and NEON, Al Hess
How you doing? Need a little break? Maybe some cute and cozy stories would help. Totally free at alhessbooks.itch.io
and set in a soft and overgrown post-post-apocalyptic world inspired by the song (Nothing But) Flowers by the Talking Heads π€πͺ»
Just a reminder: Freydis Moon is not a Mexican author. They are a a white person pretending to be Latinx. Do not give them any money.
And yes they have a new book about to drop in the middle of Latinx heritage month.
Oh geeze. How unfortunate.
I had this same thought about The Sting
That Harry Chapin tape was _very_ popular on roadtrips for my family.
Two-day migraine. Thank goodness for audio books; I'd not handle the boredom otherwise. (Re-listens only, though. This time, mostly the first three books of Lori Ames' Willow Lake Supernaturals, narrated by Kirt Graves.)
who's gonna start the dumb appliances and small electronics company and make a killing? i do not want screens, bluetooth, internet, wifi, NOTHING.
is it shitposting if i say that Gothic literature is the same as Romantic literature except indoors
Round of applause to @srlpublishing.bsky.social for this: a web page listing each of their books stolen by Meta. More active shaming of techbro thieves from publishers, please!

Fan art quote.
people who want other people to stay in sad little grey boxes forever and never be happy in their bodies or desires are villains and cowards and they may be winning right now but by god they will lose as water smooths stone and roots break it, because that fierce joy is roots and water and life
The case for letting people set their accounts to private on bsky has always been a big one, but especially lately with the witchhunts going on. We need to be able to lock down and moderate who is following us. We need to be able to stop people from following us and soft block or remove followers.
Different than fiction publishing? Sure. But if you want complete accuracy, you have to staff for it.
This. When I did line editing/proofreading for a legal publication in the 90s, each change had minimum three people's eyes on it (one lawyer, two of us) and usually more like six of us would touch it through the process. For a single, multi-volume publication, 18 of us total. Plus indexer.
DNF'd a book last night at about 20%. Not because of the crappy editing (so, so bad) but because of lack of story. Genre fiction is supposed to have a story! That's kind of the whole point.

Five small, anti-doomscroll pleasures:
1. A mug of tea that isn't over-brewed after all
2. Fitting the last piece into a jigsaw puzzle
3. Every time Grazing In the Grass plays
4. That perfect stretch unexpectedly dissolving a random ache
5. Ginger snaps

There's a particular level of bummer that's reserved for getting really excited about a romance book and then learning that one of the MCs shares a name with one of your family members. Ew no.
If you have recs for INCLUSIVE fantasy (or scifi tbh) let me know #booksky

Ashlyn Drewek 20m β’ β’ β’β’ As a conservative MM author, I already felt like I walked on egg shells with my community. I never posted anything political. I kept it to books and men's issues (because that's what MM means i.e. Male/ Male), but even that became problematic so l stopped posting at all. I eventually deleted all of my social media, except FB. Needless to say, I am SO happy to have finally found a safe space where people like me aren't vilified. Thank you for making this space.
This was posted in a MAGA author group so I wanted to bring it over here so you donβt accidentally pick up one of her books.
