Give yourself a timer (15 min), write by hand with a pen, don’t let yourself backtrack or re-read what you wrote. Don’t stop writing until the timer goes off. If it goes off and you find yourself in a grove, keep going until you’ve run out of words. Then re-read.

The whole philosophy these past few decades has been “throw this new untested technology at the kids before the researchers and legislators get to it” and we are starting to see why.

The American Library Association strongly denounces new federal book banning legislation proposed in Congress. Call your Reps. Tell them to oppose H.R. 7661. Capitol switchboard: 202-224-3121 American Library Association, Show Up For Our Libraries

"Parents, not politicians, should guide their children’s reading. In our school, campus, and public libraries, materials are selected by trained literacy professionals who understand child development and community needs. Their work is grounded in one clear purpose: helping young people become lifelong readers.

H.R. 7661 isn’t fundamentally about protecting kids. It’s about giving politicians broad authority to restrict whose stories are allowed on the shelves. That should concern anyone who believes in the freedom to read and the right of families to make decisions for themselves.” - ALA President Sam Helmick

"Rather than targeting librarians and teachers, Congress should invest in them. The Right to Read Act offers a better path, supporting well-staffed and well-resourced school libraries, strengthening evidence-based literacy instruction, and protecting the dedicated professionals who help young people discover books that open doors and expand horizons.

When we trust families, support educators, and protect the freedom to read, our young people thrive.” - ALA President Sam Helmick.

I feel like every couple of months now we get a flurry of articles of various AI tech CEOs telling us we have to use AI or get left behind and it has the same energy as the hyper religious folks who tell me if I don’t accept Jesus Im going to hell.

IF YOU'RE UNEMPLOYED IT'S NOT BECAUSE THERE ISNT ANY WORK
JUST LOOK AROUND: A HOUSING SHORTAGE, CRIME, POLLUTION; WE NEED BETTER SCHOOLS AND PARKS.
WHATEVER OUR NEEDS, THEY ALL REQUIRE WORK.
AND AS LONG AS WE HAVE UNSATISFIED NEEDS, THERE'S WORK TO BE DONE.
SO ASK YOURSELE, WHAT KIND OF WORLD HAS WORK BUT NO JOBS. IT'S A WORLD WHERE WORK IS NOT RELATED TO SATISFYING OUR NEEDS, WORLD WHERE WORK IS ONLY RELATED TO SATISFYING THE PROFIT NEEDS OF BUSINESS.
THIS COUNTRY WAS NOT BUILT BY THE HUGE CORPORATIONS OR GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACIES.
IT WAS BUILT BY PEOPLE WHO WORK. AND, IT IS WORKING PEOPLE WHO SHOULD CONTROL THE WORK TO BE DONE. YET, AS LONG AS EMPLOYMENT IS TIED TO SOMEBODY ELSE'S PROFITS, THE WORK WONT GET DONE.

The idea that a secret council of writer sages protect the craft rules for only the worthiest is very funny. She could write a book about it. Who knows, maybe they’ll open the gates for her.

Commonsense ICE reform would be calling them what they are, a state-funded terrorist organization. They should be handled like the KKK: abolished, defunded, and the members prosecuted for their crimes. I don’t want to see more “smile for the camera” atrocities. I want them to not exist.
