Denver Summit's record NWSL crowd sets new standard for what's possible The record crowd -- 63,004 -- at the Denver Summit's first NWSL home game won't be rivaled all season, but it serves as a new benchmark for future clubs and national team games.

DENVER — A record crowd of 63,004, an "intoxicating" environment, and a big-event feel. This won't be an everyday thing in the #NWSL, but it is another example of the bar getting raised. It's a day even the most optimistic—players included—couldn't have imagined even a few years ago.

Having Britt Bock, my day one from Houston, here to witness it made it mean that much more. Some people just belong in the big moments with you.

I’m not an emotional person. But this one got me. Proud of our @washingtonspirit.com crew for coming home with a big point after a long match week.

63,000 people.

I started this NWSL journey in 2014 not knowing if moments like this were even possible. Today proved they are.

Women’s soccer didn’t just arrive. It showed up.

FIFA rules women’s teams must have a woman as head or assistant coach In competitions under the football governing body's remit, each team must have at least two female staff on their bench.

Every women’s team will have to include at least two women as staff members on the bench — with one of them being either the head coach or assistant coach — as part of new regulations FIFA has agreed to introduce.

Thank you to everyone who made the Friday the 13th tifo a success! It was a labor of love and horror 👻

Check out the unseen work that goes into making a tifo, including the effort it took to raise it in 50mph+ winds and everything necessary to make it (knee pads! many many boxes of fabric!)

London City Lionesses once played in front of 400 fans. Can they build a fanbase to rival Arsenal’s? Without the support of a men's team, London City are using a different approach to attract fans

London City Lionesses once played in front of 400 fans. As the WSL’s only club independent from a men’s team, how can they build a fanbase without an existing supporter base? What does fandom mean in the WSL? Feat. dogs, running clubs and arts and crafts

Meet Huntingdon Valley-bred Erica Dambach, who built Penn State’s pipeline to the USWNT Nineteen years into her tenure as Penn State’s head women’s soccer coach, Dambach has built one of the nation’s top college programs and has sent a raft of players to the sport's biggest stages.

I've wanted for a long time to write a good feature on Erica Dambach, Penn State's women's soccer coach who grew up in the Philly suburbs and runs one of the college game's top programs.

This week, I did it.

Good timing too, with the #USWNT back in the northeast:

Desi Ellis asked it before the announcement and it’s still the only question that matters: “Would this happen in the men’s game?”
No. It wouldn’t. Full stop.

The players who need this stage the most are the ones who can least afford to be in a standoff with their clubs over a release window CAF created with 12 days notice and zero accountability.

1 month ago 5 1 1 0

CAF is essentially telling African women playing at the highest club levels to choose between their federation and their livelihood, again. And this tournament is a WWC qualifier with 6 spots to Brazil 2027 on the line.

1 month ago 5 0 1 0

And July 25–August 16 isn’t a fix. It’s a different problem. NWSL is in the thick of regular season. WSL and most European leagues are deep in preseason or opening weeks. UWCL qualifying starts in August.

1 month ago 6 0 1 0

Let’s be clear about who absorbs the cost: Players who left their clubs. Per diems and travel already spent by cash-strapped federations. Coaches who built camp plans now binned. Contracts that may look different by July. The players pay the price every time. Every. Single. Time.
