Noticed the same thing. A few days ago there was a huge convo on Twitter about Rita felski’s book on surface reading. All I see on my feed are professors reposting news stories and it’s like I can get that anywhere else I followed you cuz I want your take on niche academic topics!

The story of conservatism for the past 70 years or so is conservative establishment figures thinking they could temper the extremists in their movement by adopt some of their rhetoric and policies. But instead of that, they just wind up giving the radicals the car keys.

What COULD be the possible connection between the measurable decline in critical-reading skills EVEN amongst people who choose to study textual disciplines at university, and the wider culture's willingness to believe ANY OLD SHIT that makes them feel better?

I’ve been eagerly awaiting this release even since Joshua told our class it was coming out. We were gonna read a ch from the book last quarter but didn’t have time. Joshua is a fantastic professor I’ve already taken 2 classes with him!

Currently reading this for a presentation I have on Mon in my early modern med humanities class. Fascinating how nostalgia originally was thought to be a disease of homesickness. Also interesting to read abt “animal spirits” & their influence on the brain’s production of images

Ya but that owning up to your mistakes doesn’t mean much when you repeat the same mistakes and don’t learn from them.

Idk, I think Brandy Glanville goes just as low, if not lower, than Tamra. Not only has she said vile things to the other housewives but also physically assaults them!

As an early modern Hispanist, i still find it surprising when I take classes in English lit how other literary traditions are almost completely ignored or ostensibly have no influence on English literary & cultural production. It’s as tho all of England’s literary tradition emerged ex nihilo

Hello to my new followers! I’m a PhD student at UCLA doing research on the mutual construction of blackness and whiteness through Spanish Golden Age lit & theater. Also interested in Spain’s influence on England’s understanding of race thru its literary & cultural production.

This was an exceptionally written and thoroughly entertaining essay on Laguna beach. I was in my jr year of high school when the show came out and I was immediately hooked and enamored esp cuz I grew up in SoCal. Reading this brought back so many fond memories of that time in my life.
