Data Visualization with Textiles This site is notes and drafts that may someday become a Handbook of Data Visualization with Textiles.

If you like data, or making things with textile crafts (sewing, knitting, crochet, weaving, etc.), I've finally written something up about data visualization with textiles. More words coming over the next few months! #DHmakes

And if you want to grow something unusual it helps to know what steps you need to take to get your conditions more suitable!

Hope that's not too gushing, enjoy yourselves 😀

PS at some point it will, I promise you, be like something out of The Archers . . .

Have a good look round what others do in their plots, most folks are happy to chat and it'll give you ideas of what grows well, things you never want to do, and things you're going to copy that afternoon!
Absolutely make sure you have somewhere to sit and enjoy the plot, the bees and the view!

Being able to have some crop however small when I go motivates me - even if it's just a few edible salad leaves or radishes, so I grow quick growing things like these and herb plants.
I bought a couple of veg/fruit growing books for background information but read with care, conditions differ

I was a pretty experienced gardener when I got mine a couple of year ago, but hadn't grown much veg/fruit. I grow things I can't buy easily - broad beans, gooseberries - but not maincrop potatoes or onions and I'm not trying to be self sufficient.
I grow dye plants and plants for cut flowers!

2 how much time do you have, can you get to it easily if you need to water morning and evening, for example

3 what do you already know about growing plants - it's a great place to learn/refine knowledge

4 invest in good quality gardening tools when/if you can

Welcome to the wonderful world of allotments!
Things I think to ponder
1 what do you want to use it for, eg growing veg/fruit to be self sufficient/growing veg/fruit you can't buy in the shops/a place to sit and think/keep yourself fit etc etc
NB this will almost certainly change over time

I’m so excited, I’ve only seen otters in the flesh before on the west coast of Scotland and Orkney, not 4 miles away from my home 😊

Oh my, I’m just watching an otter on the Aln while eating my bacon roll - what a treat!! (The otter I mean)

Woo hoo, new book day!! Looking forward to reading this 😀

So it has just taken a large wooden spoon, a soup ladle and a small cardboard box (and much cursing) to get a fat bumblebee safely out of my kitchen via the open door, rather than the window which doesn't open - I'm exhausted now 😀 🐝

I love this rock crystal from the Galloway Hoard, Museum of Scotland, which is a roman piece with an early medieval gold setting. More information here www.nms.ac.uk/discover-cat....

That's so kind, I'd very much like to take up that offer at a convenient time for you. Are you OK with me DM'ing my email?

Very much enjoyed your talk today, I'm thinking about including some creative practice in my MLitt dissertation, but it's a whole new area for me, so a somewhat scary prospect!
