In the air, Mario gains access to Ground Pound! This is a relatively simple stall-and-fall attack with some interesting utility.

Mario's new grounded down special is Long Jump!

Long Jump is a command jump which multiplies Mario's ground momentum into his jump. Like in SM64, Long Jump also multiplies negative momentum, so it can be done backwards! Hmm... 🤔
