It’s one of those weeks where work feels like purgatory.

The annoying thing is that I’ve been making moves to find work at a better place but circumstances beyond my control have caused things to stall.

I didn’t particularly hate watching the Mario movie, but it was so textureless. It’s really annoying that Miyamoto is whining about not getting accolades and critical praise for a pretty safe and bland children’s movie with top 40 classic rock needledrops.

The thing that really sticks with me about Sonic movies is that while they are corporate products, there’s at least some fun story beats, a good sense of continuity, and some clever setups and payoffs. I really love how they used their new lore to make Sonic a clearer foil for Shadow, for example.

I dunno man, people seemed to like that third Sonic movie a good amount.

There *could* be an interesting theme with the bad guys having white supremacist views that tie to their belief in eugenics as well, but the fact that this is only relegated to lore and goes uncommented on by the protags (one of whom is directly impacted by it) makes it land flat on its face.

In the same boat. I actually did a presentation on it for an experimental medium college course, and made a case for its theorycrafting, fan interpretations and fangames as being another form of interactivity.

From one recent RE5 player to another: my condolences.

I loved them tying Sonic losing Longclaw in the first movie to Shadow losing Maria. Maria stuff was handled really well, too, despite the changes to Shadow’s backstory. Super Sonic was also a more powerful climax in 3.

2 is a fun movie. It’s basically 1+, but I wish the plot went in a bit of a different direction. Idris Elba’s Knuckles was so good, though.

3 was amazing. Took the right elements from SA2. Solid plot w/the right amount of complexity. So many fun shoutouts. Keanu was actually great as Shadow?!

Watched Sonic 2 and 3.

So yeah. Could have been way worse.

I thought it would be way more of a drag. And whenever the movie got a little too hamfisted, I just imagined what the same scene would have looked like with the original Sonic model and breathed a sigh of relief that did not come to pass.

Jim Carrey’s Robotnik is the missing link between modern Eggman and AoStH Robotnik and chews the scenery so much and is really funny.
