BOLD is not a simple monotonic readout of local firing. Instead, it reflects the net activity of two opposing neural populations. Interpreting it may require modeling their latent composition, not just overall activity.

Well, basically everything about 🤡 evokes this reaction in me.
"Once the diverse abundance of [Arousal⁺ & Arousal⁻] populations across brain regions is considered, neurovascular coupling becomes consistent across the brain: it is described by a single model with two HRFs that are similar across regions"
Super interesting work by @agnesland.bsky.social et al! 👇

I don't know what conniption means but this also gives me conniption by proxy.
Everyone knows this graph. I tried to clean it up/ make it modern. Attention some dataloss is unavoidable.

Agreed :) Maybe convolve with a half-gaussian (only keeping the right side)?

Don't work in this area and can't vet claims about the study, so am curious what others think.
Generally, the core argument Chris appears to make—breaking the blind is a fatal flaw for any RCT—appears similar to the argument we've made about using psychedelics for treating mental health problems.

Þarna er ýmislegt, t.d. KronKron, Vic Matié, Vagabond, Kalda, Andrea, Malene Birger, Raquel Allegra og Zac Posen (geeeeggjað pils, myndin sýnir það ekki sko!). Bæti mögulega einhverju fleiru við síðar en ég gafst upp!
Ég er búin að eyða síðustu sex klukkustundum lífs míns í að sortera, mynda og verðleggja föt 💀💀💀 -- held að ég sé kominn með harðsperrur af því. Þannig að nenniði plís að kaupa þetta dótarí? Því mig vantar að rýma fyrir fleiri fötum 😅😅😅🫢 hringekjan.is/collections/... #hringekjan #secondhand

A cortical hierarchical mechanism for subjective visual experience during working memory www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... via @hakwan.bsky.social on mental imagery; "hierarchy from IPS to EVC is critical for conscious mental visualization of memory content during WM maintenance"; #neuroscience
This preprint is about this! THIS!! Mindblowing.
C) They don't say :) but I have long suspected that the imagery debate was between scientists who were aphantic vs. hyperphantic ;)
B) All participants rated themselves as high visualizers, so it is a very interesting question whether the code is visual for non-visualizers.
A) There is a long debate on whether visual imagery is truly depictive. But more directly relevant here, it was unclear whether imagery and visual stuff was encoded by exactly the same neurons, and the nature of the code used by these populations of neurons.
I have now read this paper and it's great -- and it also provides evidence more generallu for a visual object space axis code in human ventral temporal cortex. #visionscience #neuroskyence
I'm one of those trans women. I worked ground ops for Artemis I.
I am torn between celebrating the success of my friends and peers and grieving how my dream of working for NASA was shattered by hateful assholes in Tallahassee
