My regular donation to Gender Justice League is entirely because of spite!

Back in 2020, Library Journal named Seattle Public Library as their 2020 Library of the Year, a pretty prestigious thing in librarianship. There were many of us in the profession who were mad about this choice, because in 2019, Seattle Public Library hosted WOLF, a TERF organization.

(Seattle Public Library said they were required to do that because of their open meeting room policies, but 1. other libraries chose not to host WOLF and they didn't get sued, 2. SPL could have changed their meeting room policies but chose not to, and 3. SPL didn't apologize or take actions to support their trans workers or patrons—to this day, they remain unapologetically, weirdly, staunchly proud that they're "intellectual freedom fighters," without consideration about the bigots who that emboldens.)

Library Journal's write-up about Seattle Public Library didn't mention that SPL had figuratively thrown their trans workers under the bus. So I started a petition to get that award revoked (1,700 people signed the petition!), and asking the $10,000 award to SPL be given instead to GJL. Library Journal did not revoke the award, but they did apologize for not initially discussing it and for dismissing the complaints. Plus, at that time, the sponsor of the award gave a separate $10,000 award to GJL.

For the last few years, Library Journal has asked me to present (on an unrelated topic) at one of their webinars. Every time I present for them, I donate my $600 honorarium to GJL and talk about their bad decision in 2020 during my webinar. (My spouse asked a few days ago, "haven't you made your point already?" and I was like "I GUESS NOT!!!")

That's the story. Also my 13-year-old nephew is trans and I love him dearly, and want a better world for him.

Grateful for the important work you're doing and happy to help when I can.

Thanks,
Violet

Got an email from Gender Justice League thanking me for my regular donations over the last five years, and asking about my motivation. I got to tell them all about how my donation is entirely motivated by spite.

Maybe some of you will remember the Library of the Year 2020 debacle?? 📚

If the Pope excommunictates Vance, this means all the votives I light in cathederals across Europe have come to mean something. Also, I would possibly go back to church. Possibly. (As long as I can refer to God as She as that is what she is.)

My other socials tend to be fluffy stuff but I purposely curated Bsky with independent (and a lot of non-American) journalists, newsoutlets, and papers. It centers me and I feel more intune with what is happening in the world but I'm not going to lie, a lot of what is posted is angering.

A potential doctor for Mr. Lisa's care does not respond to emails. I called their office today and left a vm but their outgoing message reiterated the fax number several times so I also sent them a fax. 🤷‍♀️

Talking about Donald Trump having dementia just gives a sympathetic excuse for inexcusable preexisting conditions. Donald has *always* been a mean, self-centered, incoherent fool who says stupid and ignorant things.

There's nothing an archivist likes more than getting to help with the weirdest, most specific questions. We had someone email about the height of kerbs in Milton Keynes and guess what?? We've got documents about that!!

This is also a self-soothing tale that thin people tell themselves: that theirs are the only bodies that are worthy of desire, and that fat bodies are impossible to want. But that's demonstrably false.

Looking for hair product company whose parent company doesn't have ties to Israel, is eco conscious, and cruelty free. And even more specifically for 2b/c hair.

Basically, a unicorn.

From new Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar's acceptance speech tonight. This is the absolute BARE MINIMUM platform for any Democrat running for President in 2028.

To any Hungarians annoyed that Americans are placing the credit for your momentous victory on the shoulders of our stunningly repellent little weasel of a VP: you are correct to feel that way, I'm sorry, we just want to seize any available oppurtunity to humiliate him specificially

Mr. Lisa and I are watching the victory videos coming out of Budapest with Orban conceding defeat to Peter Magyar. We were in Budapest a few weeks ago and tensions were tight with the Orban party smearing Magyar so that Magyar one is not only amazing but also of one great hope.

I was in Budapest a few weeks ago and the Russian backed propaganda for Orban's challenger, Magyar, is insidious. The people of Hungary have enough on their hands trying to overthrow a dictator; Vance can go fuck himself.

I should make clear that the humanities are very much serving of the public and are NOT BS jobs, however, the types of jobs available to those educated in the humanities tend to be BS jobs and not serving of the public. Yes, I am bitter that with 5 degrees I cannot get a life sustaining job.

An increasingly common conversation I'm having with my overly educated friends is that college and grad school are not worth the piece of papers or the student loan, we have BS jobs, and we feel as if we don't contribute meaningfully to society. I should have become an electrician.

This obsession with weight is unnecessary and intrusive. Especially when the medical provider is told the patient has an ED and body dysmorphia. Why would you give someone that kind of harm?

At the cardiologist for prep work before my heart ablation in a few weeks. They are incredibly aggressive about getting my weight no matter how many times I tell them to note in my chart I have ED and horrible body dysmorphia. I know my weight because I can control it at home.

In addition to wearing flip flops while it snows, I've also been talking to myself all day as I work. I am a witty, genial, and succinct conversationalist.

I was just outside in flip flops and winter coat walking the dog. Now it's snowing. Would I wear flip flops out in this weather? Yep.
