Still one of the most memorable and touching stories I’ve read! Very deserving

My daughter's school in Richfield, MN (adjacent to Minneapolis) is closing tomorrow due of out-of-control federal agents. Fourth graders spent the week building walls of snow at recess to protect their classmates from ICE. This isn't about immigration enforcement, it's about terror.

A fantastic resource for screenwriters. I’ve had nothing but good experiences so far
It’s no secret that AI models—including gen AI—tend to discriminate against racial and gender minorities. When government agencies start using biased AI to make decisions, real people suffer. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...
Here are the Top 5 Dogs of the week!
LLMs don’t work this way. I guess once unbiased AI is illegal, they’ll pretend only unbiased AI exists, and then as AI makes whatever decisions they want they’ll claim it’s objective.
Can I please have more than 20 minutes of Murderbot this week? Also early drops of seasons 2-500 would be nice.
If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.
Avery Edison @aedison I wrote "I am alive" on a piece of paper, and placed it into a photocopier. What I saw next has shocking implications
Second anniversary of this banger
This piece from @tressiemcphd.bsky.social starts with a bang and just gets better and better. Gift link.
If audio fiction is more your thing, we make all the science fiction & fantasy stories we publish available via our podcast. Great for listening on your commute, while cleaning your place, or when you need an escape. We will never use "AI" narration.

Screen shots from THE TIGGER MOVIE during the avalanche scene - repurposed to look like the scene from FELLOWSHIP OF THE RINGS. The text reads: Rabbit: Let the Ring-Bearer decide. Tigger: We will go to the mines.
My brain isn’t rotting, I’m making banana bread
You are the king of killer titles!
As someone who likes to write earnest characters you want to root for, I couldn't agree more.
Not that we need everything sprinkled with sugar, but obviously there is a large population of the country that didn't realize they weren't supposed to root for the villains.
Been a while since I’ve read a story as lovely and moving as @somtoihezue.bsky.social ‘s “We Begin Where Infinity Ends” in the latest addition of @clarkesworldmagazine.com
Or even just the huge swaths of land that are ugly and need plants and would suddenly become highly desirable living spaces
My friend won Raindance a couple years ago with this script and now she’s turned it into a fantastic book! #scriptsky #booksky a.co/d/cnSqalV
Action-oriented tasks:
-Learn about AI
-Strengthen my human network for feedback, art
-Avoid contests or tools that use AI (here’s why vimeo.com/1040639070)
-Champion policies that value human creativity
-Focus on low budget projects
-Continue to improve in ways that differentiate my work from AI
Yes! I’m focusing on low budget projects that could be made outside of an ecosystem that decides to use AI to gatekeep
I feel that this is a time of action as screenwriters. We need to be clear there’s a difference between being afraid of AI and being concerned that decision makers are making bad decisions.
Pro-tip: those color changing lights you were planning to change to Valentine’s Day pink will be seen by the HOA during the day
Lots of articles lately: “Could #AI be bad? Not if we’re better than we are”
Working on a new streak
I love Scriptnotes! But resignation is absolutely the wrong approach right now.
Been seeing a lot of ads lately for AI screenwriting feedback. Here’s why I don’t recommend that route, especially for contests and production companies: vimeo.com/1040639070 #scriptsky
It’s a good reminder. I feel weirdly embarrassed when my writer’s group keeps seeing different drafts instead of new stories, and sometimes that makes me abandon a script prematurely.
And heirloom and personalized just don’t go together
