There's something deeply foolish in his words of "collaborat[ing] with machines." The "answer" is _never_ the point. The effort is the point. The breakthroughs are the point. Our students are done a great disservice when we humor the idea that outsourcing thinking to a machine may be good.
IMO there's no value in having a computer chunk through "solving" math problems. That's enlightenment for human beings. We grow by struggling with problems, by trying and failing, by expanding our own knowledge. We don't grow by having a computer give us answers.

Back when I did PalmOS programming, I really appreciated that the meager resources forced efficiency and design. Space was at a premium and memory leaks crashed the devices quickly.
I don't get the sense that programmers on more forgiving devices ever needed to learn design or efficiencies.
I want this as a poster to hang in my classroom.
