Hi! A group of people, especially @neurozorro.bsky.social and team, are developing new versions…check out compose.neurosynth.org. Neurostore, nimare
And neuroquery @gaelvaroquaux.bsky.social
Neurosynth.org is static since Tal stopped maintaining it. Still useful though imo

🎓Recruiting Ph.D. students for Fall 2026!🎓
The Feilong Lab @sc.edu studies commonalities & differences across brains, and how they relate to cognition, language, & disorders.
We develop brain templates, improve hyperalignment, and compare human brains with monkey brains & DNNs.

All code and data are publicly available. Maps in Figures 5-6 are available at neurovault.org/collections/.... The public fMRI dataset includes this narrative task plus five other tasks and resting-state scans, detailed in www.nature.com/articles/s41..., led by @jungheejung.bsky.social. (10/11)
Excited to share my first-author paper now out in @natcomms.nature.com (www.nature.com/articles/s41...)! Here, we asked whether verbal narratives about social interactions activate the same brain areas as audiovisual presentations, and whether they overlap with theory of mind (ToM). (1/11)
Join us for a postdoc @ the Donders Institute; application deadline March 24.

We combined data across 8 heat pain studies (>550 participant) that varied in experimental design, stimulus parameters, & rating scales. Skin conductance was processed w/ 5 pipelines (minimal, manual, ledalab, pspm, & classifier from @torwager.bsky.social lab) leading to 18 scr metrics per subject.
Preprint on PANDORA by Aslan Abivardi:
A massive archive of UK Biobank brain imaging from 82K subjects. For each of 98 sub-modalities (e.g., FA from dMRI), the images are collated into a convenient subjectsXvoxels HDF5 file.

🚨 Welcome to our new member of the Executive Committee 🚨
Professor Tor Wager’s @torwager.bsky.social research centers on the neurophysiology of affective processes— #pain, #emotion, #stress, and #empathy—and how they are shaped by cognitive and social influences.

New article published in Addiction and lead by IBG postdoc @lydiarader.bsky.social identifies transdiagnostic genetic overlap between general chronic pain and addiction risk, along with substance-specific pathways. doi.org/10.1111/add....
Check out our new paper!
We found general chronic pain is genetically linked to broad addiction liability, while musculoskeletal pain shows more substance-specific genetic associations, particularly with tobacco and alcohol use.

Excited to share our work @springernature.com Building on our work defining TRMacs heterogeneity, we show that distinct chemokine+ IM subsets and recruited TAM niches shape pro- and anti-tumor immunity within to the TME, while Ag+ moDCs trafficking to LNs dampen DC-based neoAg vaccine

NIH is requesting comments on a new draft policy that may require human brain imaging data (and other data) from nih-funded research to only be shared via controlled access, & only with certain countries. I suggest neuroimagers read closely & submit comments by 3/18.

Thanks for the likes and reposts! For those of you who have taken the course or reviewed the syllabus, we would love to hear: What new ideas would you love to see covered? Reply or DM.
Another of Charlie Gross’s passions was history of neuroscience. He wrote excellent books. This gave him a wide-angle view. He taught us that dogma exists to be challenged, we haven’t figured things out, and being a stepping stone is inevitable and perfectly fine.

My new essay for @thetransmitter.bsky.social. Why is understanding emotion so challenging? The debates around what counts as an "emotion" shed insight.
These disputes are multidimensional, principled and fascinating. Here, I unpack them.

The psych job market may not be dead... but it is gravely injured 😬 So far it's looking like the Trump administration's attacks on higher ed/research are going to have more than 2x the impact on the job market as the covid-19 pandemic. #psychjobs #neurojobs #academicjobs
Burnout in health care providers is a big issue. It reduces wellbeing and the ability to be effective. (Be kind to your provider!) Encouraging news: In a study of >2,000 providers, the Healthy Minds Program app reduced distress and improved wellbeing 9 mos later. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
New Open dataset alert:
🧠 Introducing "Spacetop" – a massive multimodal fMRI dataset that bridges naturalistic and experimental neuroscience!
N = 101 x 6 hours each = 606 functional iso-hours combining movies, pain, faces, theory-of-mind and other cognitive tasks!

The final version (after proof) is now finally out. It provides a detailed spatio-temporal profile of brain mediation of the cue-stimulus integration in the pain context. We interpreted the results in terms of cortical hierarchy. journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...

A fascinating new #fmri study from Jo He with Kevin Ochsner and co. on social reappraisal. Giving advice to a friend changes our brain responses and helps regulate emotion. Fictive processes (imagination!) can have real consequences in the brain & life.
