After months of debate within my psychogeography circles on whether the term flaneur is too pretentious and sexist, I have coined the term Meanderthal and will conduct my derives with the stumbling brutishness the term warrants.
Feel free to use it widely in daily conversation.

And the architect of chaos watching it all unfold.
Repost for a chance of winning a 4x6 print. I’ll select 40 at random to celebrate the 40th edition of the Barkley Marathons.

(I also really appreciate the coming together of different niches - I specialised academically in the psychology of adventure sports and Type 2 fun, having data wranglers on the informal #BM100 spectators team really helps my skill gaps, so thank you!)
100%, *but* there still remains a certain feeling of smugness about being the person who has done that homework, and a real sense of satisfaction at putting all of the jigsaw pieces together. Or maybe that's just me who feels proud of my incredibly niche and usually totally useless knowledge base!
With the continued mentions of wild pigs, my theory is that Raichon thought one of the books was in a cave, they all went in to look, and some sort of #BM100 Lord of the Flies scenario ensued.
Lots of confirmed names and IDs in Laz's post too. But mainly I care about the stories at this point 😆
#BM100 report from Laz has landed. As always with his write ups it is well worth a read

I too would like to hear about this cave of wild boars

Usual campsite closed for construction this year so start point was moved slightly and they had to bring a gate I think? #BM100
Everything I've read points to this being permanent unless climate change suddenly reverses. The foliage needs to be thinner, the rattle snakes need to be hibernating and the weather needs to be unpredictable... and none of that can be guaranteed in late March anymore unfortunately
Well friends that's it.
I'd say same time next year, but given it's the #BM100, how about some mystery time in the next 15 months?
I dearly want both Sebastien and Damian to get a full run and not just another measly fun run each. Alas (almost certainly) not this time.
Should've put my hopes solely in the course again for guaranteed glee.

@alixwzl.bsky.social has been bringing some excellent meeple based visuals this year. And I only bring silly quips but I love a party 👀
We've all been there, it's a very tiring job following the Barkley after all ;)
And then there were two.
Omg that is incredible!
Not that what3words is good for anything beyond entertainment, but here's some of the #BM100 W3Ws:
Usual starting gate - Requirements.Shortages.Weep
Frozen Head Tower - Massively.Bootie.Slipping, Mystery.Imprints.Mapping & Participants.Disband.Regulate
Rat Jaw - Headlamp.Alas.Fade
Using the Loop 3 #BM100 lull to get on with some slightly more normal projects. First up, fashioning miniature gates out of old diy tools. That's normal, right?
Would you accept the race nickname Eddie the Eagle as part of the deal?

Ah, found it! Andrew Thompson's epic attempt #BM100

Making their own way back is part of the race - I've been trying to track down the race report from the year someone hallucinated that they were a mailman and spent 13 hours delivering post to trees before realising they were in the #BM100 because that was quite something
Right now I just hope the race lasts long enough for us to find that out 🤞
One thing I'm not clear on this year is if L1&2 being CCW means 3&4 are both CW, or if 3 is CW and 4 is CCW. What do we think?
Personally I imagine 3CW and 4CCW is harder, and therefore more likely.

I see you #BM100 followers using it as inspiration for your Sunday runs.
Pro tip: I just went out into my muddy garden, spun around until I felt disoriented, and then had a cold shower - you can actually skip out the running bit and get the same benefits
And yet it made perfect sense 😅 iykyk I guess
He's also not wearing a red shirt so that tracks
In order to stop myself dismissively saying "but running in the rain is lovely", I'm watching videos of Rat Jaw in the rain.
Less lovely.

Glad Laz is having a good weekend.
The campaign page for Damo's feet and sanity will be set up shortly... that man needs an intervention.

Back for the UK day shift on the #BM100
So far my phone tells me we have barefoot runners, we've heard a lot of Taps, and Keith said something hilarious about making things easier next year.
I'm just worried it won't go beyond Fun Run and everyone will have to go back to work tomorrow.
