I've written an open-source thingy for the Go ecosystem:

tl;dr - name a function, and this tool will add `context.Context` plumbing throughout the call graph leading to that function, intelligently reusing existing context arguments where available.

lmao, just got a notification from Google Scholar that it was "time to update my profile"... sure, sure. But curiosity got the better of me and I clicked through; turns out 2024 was my best year ever in terms of citations bwahahaha
achievement unlocked: gave a presentation at work this week using a handout instead of slides 🤓
ChatGPT o1-preview Q: I have a bucket that can hold 7L of water. However, it's missing the bottom and the top is welded and sealed shut. How much water can this bucket hold? <Thought for 8 seconds> A: Since the bucket is missing the bottom and the top is sealed shut, it has no enclosed space to hold water. Any water poured into it would simply flow out through the open bottom. Therefore, the bucket cannot hold any water in its current condition.

This remains the most accurate analysis of LLMs-as-models-of-cognition:
I'm more of a Fedora guy than a Ubuntu guy tbh, but it's hard to compete with Ubuntu when it comes to working out of the box even on relatively niche PC hardware

You've heard of "the Year of Linux on the Desktop".
But what about "the Year of Linux on the Palmtop"?
A screenshot of an iTerm2 window with multiple tabs open in tmux integration mode, on a host named "octavia". The tab that's in the foreground is displaying the status of various system services: systemd services, snap services, podman containers, and docker containers, showing whether they are up (they all are) and how long they've been up for.

on the occasion of the Telegram founder being arrested in France, just thought I'd remind everyone that there's a decentralized, encrypted messaging network hiding in plain sight for anyone to use... here's my handle: matrix.to#/@preminger:... 😊

Every so often one of these will even get stuck in my head. This morning I was walking around with a pretty awful (and entirely made up) nü-metal theme song stuck in my head from the dream I woke up from. Brains: still weird. 2/2
Do any of you ever "compose" made up soundtracks in your dreams? This isn't even a brag - sometimes they're AWFUL - but once in a while I'll wake up from a dream & realize there had been a song playing in the dream that... doesn't actually exist in the real world. 1/2
Three of the hostages rescued yesterday were being held prisoner in the home of Abdullah Jamal, an English language journalist for the Palestine Chronicle and previously a spokesperson for the Hamas Labor ministry.
Let that sink in.

I don't often type passwords out manually anyway, given that I use a password manager; but it was awesome to type the (very long) master password to my password manager vault while not having to wait till the end to discover if I had made a typo or not 😅 2/2
A cool property of augmented-reality goggles that I had not anticipated is that password fields (e.g. in a web browser) don't have to obscure your passwords as you type them, since your own eyeballs are the only ones that can see the "screen" 😁 1/2
