An application-based taxonomy for brain–computer interfaces - Nature Biomedical Engineering Naming brain–computer interfaces according to their intended application will assist stakeholders in the evaluation of the benefits and risks of neurotechnologies.

What is or isn't a "BCI"?

We argue in Nature BME today that if the tech stimulates or records brain activity AND does computation, it's a BCI.

www.nature.com/articles/s41...

But we still need a way to discuss different types of BCI separately... 🧵

💯%. I feel like they could make a whole side series focused on Cortana / AGI and BCI interactions (human augmentation?)

On a side note, Microsoft dropping Cortana assistant is such a bummer.. Cortana > copilot

I've heard such good things about Deux Ex - in fact, I think it's sitting in my steam library 😶‍🌫️

I didn't even know matrix online was a thing! I'm such a huge MMORPG fan, bummed I missed that timeline. Great additions Kip, thanks!

System shock 2, yes! I think that was a bit formative for me pre BME

Curious if anyone has any good video game recommendations for neuroscience / neural engineering.

The half-life series comes to mind.. maybe Mass Effect, too?

This is a really interesting paper investigating outcomes associated with rechargeable implantable pulse generators. More studies analyses on neuromod tools themselves are very much needed. doi.org/10.1016/j.ba...

If you haven't tried #ARC search yet, I can highly recommend. I'm still using Google for the ~ simple ~ things, but for quick (<3 second) data/source aggregation and synthesis, PLUS phenomenal source highlights, ARC rules.

Personally excited about number 2. New modalities (and less invasive, at that) are an exciting development.

Biohybrid neural interfaces: an old idea enabling a completely new space of possibilities | Science Corporation Science Corporation is a clinical-stage medical technology company.

I had an idea way back in college which I've long thought could be, in many ways, the ultimate BCI technology. What if instead of using electrodes, we used biological neurons embedded in electronics to communicate with the brain?
