I looked at this again for 15 minutes today, and am just astounded by the art direction. Pause and look at the backgrounds. The line work is amazing!

Thanks Liz! The skies are useful subjects due to how they force me to go slow and have a light hand, two extremely unintuitive things to me.

Three open sketchbooks, showing various colored pencil drawings I've completed recently: LA at dusk, a garden building in Venice, and a bunch of colorful fantasy drawings showing a camouflaged figure in a gasoline-colored forest, a stern knight, and a woman with huge red eyes.

Three sketchbooks open to pages with recent colored pencil drawings I've completed: the LA river at night, a drawing of the side of my apartment in the afternoon, and some drawings of a ponytailed knight with a pistol.

Trying out colored pencils over the past couple days, jumping between sketchbooks to see how different paper feels.

Angeline Era is a shrewd and poetic examination of the past Sprawling yet intimate, the new RPG Angeline Era offers sharp, personal design in an age of open world excess.

Analgesic's latest RPG is a sharply designed counterpoint to open world excess.

We library folk do a good job talking about all the free services we offer, but I don’t see many of us talking about how libraries are one or the only places where you can use services without being advertised to.

Despelote is one of my favorite games of the last few years. Documentarian and personal and unlike anything else I’ve played. Go run around as a little kid trying to make sense of the world in the shadow of the World Cup.

It seems people want to ponder orbs—I mean learn about Matcaps! They're great for gesturing at complex lighting and reflections within a stylized art style. And as a bonus, no UV unwrapping! ^.^

These graphics are such a delight. Congrats to the Angeline Era team! Looking forward to playing it.

as you move, the world zooms out and you become smaller, creating an interesting effect.

even further zoomed out, you are getting quite small now. still not sure what the setting is.. possibly a space station or something.

you are now tiny but can see much more of the map that you have now explored (without having to use a map).

Cube-based environment art (along with melos’s “auto-cuber” tool) allows for the efficiency and complex secrets-hinting of 2D tilesets combined with the benefits of 3D lighting and atmosphere.

Large “EnviroChunks” with flexible triplanar materials quickly establish setting in the background of scenes.

Gestural vertex colors quickly and beautifully define characters that pop against the environment and look good small or large onscreen.

iNaturalist.org can be an amazing resource for game artists, featuring species id and many public domain community photos of life on Earth!

Matcap materials are good for creating shiny or translucent objects while maintaining a simplified/stylized look.

Angeline Era is out NOW!!! ^.^ here's a breakdown of some elements and techniques I used to create the HUGE visual world of Era. Ultra-dense action and secrets meant a bigger focus than ever on visual clarity and communication! ⚔️🔍

See it in action!!

Very nice to see a glimpse of the cornfield, one (of many) of the memory levels I don't think I ever played the final version of. There's so many corners of TUP that still feel like half remembered dreams

Haha you're welcome! I recorded so much footage of that game 🫠
I still remember seeing the wet lab environment you made in like your first week and thinking "oh shit, I need to step it up"
