No, sorry. Genuinely - I meant to agree. I try to tell folks that, but it's hard. Irreducible problem is kind of a perfect way to say something I fumble over all the time
I need to shore up my language on the free function thing because I'm often in teams where people tuck _whatever_ into them for the (seemingly) least examined reasons. I want to talk to them about it but I don't wanna be rude!
yeah but like, I love it. I'm gonna try it out. The "that's just programming but through a chatbot, so you're still gonna need programmers 'cause they're the only ones stubborn enough to stick with it" line is true but way too many words
I'm not sure WHEN it happened but at some point my oldest tore past me on Mario, Spider-Man and DBZ. I just go ask him these days lol, he always knows
Yeah this is how I felt. My boys were stoked about it, and it really worked in a lot of Easter eggs for them... and I guess I'm not expecting a mind blowing plot from Mario. So, fine
Uh oh the Zacks have been revealed as part of the collective Joshmind.
I think about something related to this a lot: is it possible to do social proof of humanity w/o just like, creating some kind of hackable system? Vouching feels good, until you think about how easy it is to game and popular accounts would get tons of "vouches", but popularity != verifiably human.
this... is a really good point. I was speculating that they forecasted a deadline miss and worked with early preview partners to do some spin, but yeah, this makes more sense
I watched that last week! Yep.
Tbh... The (valid) bitterness of this perspective aside, the truth is that damn near every kind, considerate, progressive movement tends to also make a hell of a lot of sense economically.
I mean we should be capable of caring for one another but it's also true that being considerate is prosperous.
So, what I'm hearing is, maybe it's a bad time for all the big orgs to be wantonly yarfing out generated code with minimal oversight, engineering rigor, or durability / resilience work?
“holy shit esmevane, is this a 12k line refactor?”
“The behavior is unchanged it just clicks better. I swear. OK I’m closing it 😔”
It’s a shame this guy only cross posts here because it’s just a stream of bangers with no follow up
Like I've been mapping Anthropic more and more to Apple lately, and I think that means they're honest but really marketing-minded, but also that their stuff is well-oiled integration wise, even marketing material. So maybe Mythos isn't really ready, but they can use that to craft a story
Yeah, I honestly think most of it is probably true but the reality is probably, you know, a blend of model and well-oiled integrations, and they might not be fully able to release it because of the latter part more than anything? That's my 15 minutes in take I guess
haha i wish i'd read this before my other reply, welp. thanks For You feed
They did a pretty impressive ad campaign boasting about a security fix bot, mostly, and just sort of saying that they didn't know they were making a security bot, but did. It _really_ threads the needle between "scary" and "impressive"; it's a marketing masterclass. And it's a new model pitch, too.
I mean, could you imagine a page like this but about all the huge security flaws that Rust just straight up prevents by default?
But no. Can the initiative, we gotta chase fads.
Wondering if anyone formerly at the executive level at Mozilla when they chopped Servo / Rust is looking at the Glasswing thing with any self-awareness about what a Serious Security-Related PR Campaign Can Do if you actually, you know, finance one.
aaaargh i just figured this post out and now i wish i hadn't
it's a great addendum to our glossary armature to inform future design conversations with
yeah I notice that they can't prefix any messages with "we've stopped him from doing the crazy shit, and here's what's next", no matter what the topic
get comfy with making irc bots while sucking, c'mon ;) i don't think i've ever seen a GOOD irc bot that made me go, "damn this was made by experts", they're all crazy scripts
lol yeah I didn't realize until now. WELP
blade runner's feeling more prescient than normal right now
the LIKES are going DOWN! that's bad for ME! and uh, everyone! and bluesky, somehow!
Yeah, speculation is junk, but it kind of seems like a few people piloted it and then the team maybe boomed once the product did, so maybe the SMEs are spread thin now that, like you’re saying, KPIs took root
Bret Victor’s famous talk is the root of most time travel code but the ACTUAL thing he was trying to say in it is that he believed this, and was frustrated enough that no one else did, that it inspired him to invent time travel tooling for a friend
I’m not sure how Anthropic navigates this given they’ve obviously brute forced CC this entire time. Do any of them know how their code works?
“the pharaoh’s tomb is cursed! the necromancer’s ring is cursed! the witch’s grimoire is cursed!” that’s how you sound. everything is fucking cursed with you bro. i don’t care. i’m taking this skull.
