1. multi user backups / whole pds backups is on the roadmap
2. it's there to prevent unauthorized backups, though you can use other tools to do the same thing, so perhaps it should be removed

Also we highly recommend using our app as a template if you're interested in building desktop apps for #atproto. It includes functional OAuth (which was quite hard to perfect!), backup tasks, and modern UI.

v0.1.1 is now released. You can now open the developer tools for debugging.

If you have the app already installed, you should be able to force quit and relaunch the app to complete the update.
