Crystal introduced the Celebi event in Japan where after obtaining a GS Ball via the mobile adapter you can encounter and capture the otherwise unobtainable Pokémon Celebi
These event Mythical Pokémon would continue until Gen 5's Victini before going to Mystery Gift

35. Battling the previous player character
The final challenge in Gen 2 is a battle against Red the player character from Gen 1. Red would later come back for Gen 7 but aside from that, no other player character has returned for a cool battle
