I'm convinced Astoria has the best representatives of anywhere in the country. No exaggeration. And we are going to fix not only Astoria's streets but all of NYC

East Side, West Side: Mamdani's DOT Will Transform 72nd Street With Protected Bike Lane, Bus Improvements - Streetsblog New York City Mamdani's DOT will turn 72nd Street into a cross-town protected bike route, starting with the west side as early as this summer.

This is long overdue. 👏🏾🤩

nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/04/14/e...

“The committee voted to approve the proposal 7 to 2, but DOT indicated it would go ahead regardless of how the full board votes on May 1. Implementation could start this summer.”

If you're in the NYC area: Zohran and his new DOT are going to bat for us, we need to be there to support the new plan for doubling the length of 31st St.

FIRST ON STREETSBLOG: Mamdani To Fully Fund Trash Containerization - Streetsblog New York City He's finally trimming New York's 5-o'clock shadow.

Very good news. And a five-year timeline is pretty fast by municipal standards.

Also:

"The city has roughly three million parking spaces, and full trash containerization is expected to take about 150,000 spaces, or 5 percent."

I hate it. I am not a fan of autonomous vehicles hogging up a bike lane. Autonomous vehicles are a way to give businesses further control over what we are allowed to do with our streets. We perhaps need blue lane for general small human operated micromobility < 20mph.

$10 gas is coming. Cities need to prepare NOW to give people options

2 weeks ago 1316 351 75 32

@mayor.nyc.gov Gas is $4.00/gallon. We need the bike lane and the bus lane like ASAP. Many of us are getting destroyed by these prices. It seems DOT is waffling on tge Brooklyn Bridge connections we in the community need. Lafayette/4th Ave & Brooklyn Bridge are vital.

We’re building the Manhattan-side bike lane and pedestrian entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge in time for the World Cup.

New Yorkers deserve to enjoy the game on their feet, on their bikes, and with ease.

NYC DOT just moments ago presented a plan for more bike + pedestrian space on 9th Ave - a street I ride on daily - to Manhattan CB4.

A 9' wide bike lane provides space for passing - and DOT deserves credit for widening bike lanes in manhattan in the past few years.

We have a mountain of garbage on 35th street that people have to wade through when walking down the street. Ideally when people get off the train they wouldn’t be slammed with trash heaps taking over the sidewalk.

Let there be as much outrage from politicians in Washington when kids go hungry as there is when I break bread with New Yorkers.

The US and Israel are conducting a muslim genocide in the middle east. Its not going to stop if Iran falls. Its going to get worse. The GCC, China, India better get a clue and fast. 😵‍💫🤦🏾‍♂️😩

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social @nyc311.bsky.social I was walking home on 35th St in Manhattan. Look at what I saw. We desperately need trash containerization on Manhattan’s 35th street and probably Midtown more broadly. Look at this wall of garbage on 35th street. Its every night. 🤦🏾‍♂️
