I seem to have dropped out of all my socials. Not on purpose, or for any reason that I know of. But what better way to let the word know I'm still alive than sharing the interview I had with @jimallthetime.bsky.social He's a fine fellow, and good fun to chat with open.substack.com/pub/jimallth...

Those extreme groups waving flags bearing the St George's Cross at anti-migrant protests today would do well to remember that they wave the cross of Christ, himself a refugee, who said much about caring for the stranger in our midst. We need proper debate about this issue, not stoking fear & hate.
I'll do that!
The Nikon I think. Actually, I didn't do much photography on this trip. I got a bit caught up in it! I'm willing to talk about Rwanda (more or less) anytime, anywhere to anyone who'll listen. Getting me started is easy. Getting me to shut up can be a challenge!
Amazing! I wouldn't want to minimize the issues and challenges being faced, but the recovery post-genocide is a modern miracle

This half frame Friday I bring a call to action! #hff
The inaugural Worldwide Half-frame Photography Day is Sunday 6th September - mark it on your calendars, follow @halfframephotoday.bsky.social and if you can, please spread the word to as many people as possible.

I can't really claim to be old skool. More of an old school wannabe.
It's a bit of nonsense really, but I'm having fun with it. The serious point, if I'm allowed one, is that genuinely useful stuff can be done on these little computers that cost practically nothing.
A blog post about my tinkering with a #RaspberryPi Zero. Written with tongue in cheek, so it's not to be taken entirely seriously. (It's all true, though!)

I assumed that "Half frame storirs" was some cool niche thing I hadn't heard of yet!
I've completed a test roll in my recently acquired Olympus Pen D. It's hanging up to dry as we speak. There won't be any great pictures, but I'm pleased to say there are pictures. Evenly spaced on the roll, too. So that's a win. #believeinfilm
Not much a/c here in the UK and our houses are built for the cold not the heat. We're not equipped for 30+C. My bedroom was 29C went I went up last night.
I'll have a word, but I can't make any promises 😁
I certainly wasn't built for these temperatures
I've been wandering around the house taking what will probably turn out to be really bad photos with it. For now, the meter pretty well agrees with the one on my phone, but if it ever gives up at least the camera will still work

I'm having trouble finding the motivation to go out photographing in this heat. So here's the fellow who would be joining me if I could get off the sofa #believeinfilm
Being able to finish a roll might be optimistic
An Olympus Pen D arrived today - hoping to put a test roll through it at the weekend. #believeinfilm #halfframe
... a Pi Zero running without GUI, holding my to-do list, calendar, notebook and journal (all plain text). It's running a script to see how long the power packs last and how hot the CPU gets
In the foreground, a computer keyboard. Behind it there's a small computer screen. The small green out-of-focus shape to the right is a Raspberry Pi Zero in a funky case
At Hall Towers, I've been having fun with Raspberry Pi devices in various guises lately alongside testing ways of not being quite so tightly gripped by Google. Here's a very bad photo of a 'proof of concept' setup)...
Update: In the end, I went for a Pen D from the UK. The price only had 2 numbers before the decimal point, so it doesn't really count 😀
There's no arguing with that.
A question not entirely unrelated to my last one about half-frame cameras: what experience do you have of buying from Japanese sellers on the auction site?
I'm grateful for all the replies. I haven't reached a decision yet - there's no need to be hasty - but I'm leaning in the direction of a Pen in some form atm. The Pentax does look nice, though! If money were no object I'd get both. But I'm afraid it is.
👍
Which lens(es) do you have Stig?
Film friends: I want to get into half frame. I've got a Chaika, which I want to love but don't, and an Agfa-badged plastic-fantastic similar to the H35, but I want something better quality. I'm torn between Pen F and Pentax 17. I'd be interested in gathering the collective wisdom. #believeinfilm
Sorry to hear this. I hope the funeral is helpful. Prayers offered.
My two penn'orth: both statements are true. Yes, you could make a difference. And also, it might raise issues about your sanity! I've done 2 stints, both inc Estyn inspections. I'm not sure I'm queueing up to do it again! But if you have the support of colleagues, I'm sure you'd be good
