it's also really interesting how the organization giving statements about the dangers of these radio attacks is the Seoul YMCA ...?

He explained that because LG Uplus set IMSI numbers to match phone numbers, hackers using simple IMSI catchers can collect IMSI (phone number) data from all nearby devices. This leaves LG Uplus subscribers exposed to targeted vishing and smishing attacks, and if hackers know a specific personβs phone number, they can even track their location.
this is literally insane, setting the IMSI on the SIM card to match the phone number. it dramatically lowers the barrier for dangerous real time location tracking attacks π€¦ββοΈ

I haven't read the longer academic version, only the shorter essay above. Lmk what you think after!

Deeply embarrassing moment for me as I misheard someone complaining about the "challenges of modern dating," thought they were talking about radioisotope dating for rocks, and said "what, did they discover a new isotope?"
what do folks think of the default System76 OS (Pop OS)?

Published a blog post about how I got my congressperson to convince SFO to change their illegal mandatory biometrics collection

6 alchemist/wizard type people
there's actually a whole other cast of people in the original book
Alchemist with a glowing lizard behind him
Original cover illustration of SICP where the alchemist has a glowing lambda behind them
TIL the lambda was originally a lizard in the victorian manuscript the SICP cover is based on
can't believe Laplace didn't put a single illustration in his 1814 publication ππ΄π΄π’πͺ π±π©πͺππ°π΄π°π±π©πͺπ²πΆπ¦ π΄πΆπ³ ππ¦π΄ π±π³π°π£π’π£πͺππͺπ΅π¦Μπ΄, incredibly rude of him
I had a friend successfully become a Canadian citizen in just 2 months as a result of this ruling! Their most recent Canadian ancestor was 5 generations back.
It really does apply recursively, going back indefinitely.
This is kind of a rhetorical question, but not totally. Is it that opt out laws just don't cover this kind of thing?
How come on Instagram I can only opt out of my data being sold, and not their acceptance of data about me for marketing?
E.g. in your "Account Settings", you can see a list of advertisers who targeted you because they included you in a list *they uploaded* of who they want their ads to reach.
jigglypuff plush with giant, empty eyes. deeply ominous.
meme of squidward with large, empty, dead-inside eyes. text reads "please give me access to scada. i am normal and can be trusted with the power grid." scada is a software tool for operating power grid infrastructure.
when i saw the new jigglypuff plushie, all i could think of was this image from the forum for power grid operators
that's really interesting, thank you so much! I didn't know he was involved in the Manhattan Project also!
Also curious how you found this and decided to read this, if you're comfortable sharing? Something I'm kind of always interested in!
Beret with a large fluffy bird that is on a bird swing attached to the side. Surprisingly classy, as opposed to costume-y.
also, allow me to present the best ever bird beret
ugh I need more silly berets like this, but they're so hard to find!
Which text is this? I'd like to check it out!
Just want to say this is something I'm guilty of as well in my career as an engineer, and have been trying to get better at recognizing it before it happens.
Really insightful post by @senykamara.com on how STEM educations aren't preparing engineers for the reality many of them face: being expected to tackle issues that can't and shouldn't be reduced to simple engineering problems, but they keep trying to do it anyway.
Want to share how much I love Evy Kassirer's blog about community living: thoughtclippings.com/community-ho...
Even as someone who isn't into community living, I find the posts insightful about group dynamics and quite interesting.
The evacuation area appears to explicitly include the ancient Phoenician and Roman ruins on the Tyre peninsula.

I grew up in Houston, Texas and thought school field trips to the rodeo to milk fake cows was normal.
I also thought it was normal for most non-teacher adults I encountered to be astronauts. Was very confused when I moved to Canada and there were no longer astronauts everywhere!
