During an era that will go down in the history as a time of cruelty and chaos and crisis, it is crystal clear that education in America, the American labor movement, and we—the American people—have the power to right the ship.
We must continue to resist.

Today begins #NationalLibraryWeek—we can all agree that libraries and librarians are essential. For learning, for growing, for thriving.
Every student deserves a fully-stocked, fully-funded, fully-staffed library in their neighborhood public school.
Teachers nurture students. They inspire their growth. They encourage their passions.
Nothing can replace the spark between a dedicated educator and their students—and AI never will.
Nothing can replace the human connection between educators and their students.
And as I discussed with labor leaders on Capitol Hill today, decisions about technology in schools and workplaces must put people first.
We proudly celebrate the librarians who anchor our school communities. They connect students with resources, spark imagination, and champion the freedom to read. Their dedication makes our libraries places where curiosity thrives and every student feels empowered. #NationalLibrarianDay
Tomorrow is #NationalLibrarianDay, and as librarians show our students every day across the country, reading has the power to sow empathy and acceptance.
Mark the day by exploring our list of books about disability rights and inclusion 📚
Students in our public schools deserve more funding and support—not less.
Voucher schemes drain resources from public schools when our students need them most.
Fascists always come for educators first—we know why.
We teach students to think for themselves, solve problems, question & analyze.
We teach them the world's a big place with all kinds of people—and there’s beauty in diversity.
They come for us because education is the foundation of democracy.
Today is Glisten's #DayofSilence where we acknowledge that LGBTQ+ voices are too often silenced and ignored.
We all have a part to play in calling out bias, promoting inclusion, and lifting up others' voices. ❤️ 🧡 💛 💚 🩵 💙 💜
The SAVE Act is about making sure only the “right people” are allowed to vote.
If those who wanted to limit voting to the “right people” in the 1960s had succeeded, I wouldn’t be a Senator.
As National Action Network and its leader, Reverend Al Sharpton, mark 35 years of unwavering commitment to racial and social justice, I congratulate you.
Thank you for your critical work and outstanding leadership.
Our vision for public education is simple:
A system that is safe, just, and welcoming—and prepares every student to succeed.
Where every educator is respected and has what they need.
April is #NationalSchoolLibraryMonth, and it should go without saying that school libraries are crucial, indispensable places of learning.
Every school deserves a fully-staffed library—well-stocked with books that will change students' lives.
Trump’s budget makes this much clear: he has utterly abandoned working Americans.
Gutting funding for full-service community schools. Slashing funding for teacher quality partnerships. Increasing funding for ICE.
If his budget becomes reality, students and families will suffer.
Trump’s budget, released today, confirms what educators already know and exposes an administration that has utterly abandoned working Americans.
This administration is sending an unmistakable message: students, educators, and working families do not matter.
There is no doubt that the work of educators is transformative—for their students and communities.
This was evident everywhere in Hawai'i. In discussions with members, meetings with lawmakers—inside the classroom and out.
Anywhere in the country, public schools are at the center of communities.
Last night I closed out my visit with the Hawai'i State Teachers Association by hearing from members across the islands. Hearing from educators across the country is the heart of this job, and the work we do together.

How incredible it was to visit Pūʻōhala Elementary, a Hawai’ian immersion school on Oahu! I heard traditional songs from students, toured classrooms, and learned about their working garden. Mahalo to all of the educators teaching this beautiful—and essential—language and culture.
While visiting Oahu, I was glad to join the team at @hawaiinewsnow.com for an important conversation about the challenges Hawaii educators are facing today.
For generations, birthright citizenship has embodied the promise at the heart of America: that every child born here can grow, contribute, and pursue their dreams without limitation.
The Supreme Court must reject Trump's effort to undermine constitutional rights or strip away fundamental freedoms.

The educators at King Kamehameha III Elementary, housed now in temporary buildings, are a living testament to resilience. But educators shouldn’t be forced to stand in the gaps during crises—they need and deserve support.

Today began with an early morning flight to Maui, and a visit to the site of King Kamehameha III Elementary, which burned during the Maui fires of 2023. Recovery is a long road for these educators, students, and families.
Today is Transgender Day of Visibility 🏳️⚧️
All students deserve to be their authentic selves in the classroom—and to be supported and celebrated for who they are.
Any politician who thinks otherwise has no place in making decisions about the lives of our students.
I am on my way to visit my colleagues at the Hawaii State Teachers Association, and hear directly from members who have faced untold challenges in the form of Maui's fires, Oahu's flooding, and more.
This week, I'll be sharing their stories.
Students deserve dignity, safety, and a chance to thrive—no matter who they are or how they pray.
Instead of fully funding schools and respecting our rights, some politicians spew anti-Muslim hate—hoping we blame each other and ignore their failures.
We demand our leaders do right by all of us.
Nothing is more precious than a child. And nothing is more worthy of support and funding than that child's education.
Fully fund public schools.
Yesterday, I witnessed a moment that will echo far beyond a single day. Millions rose up on #NoKings Day to demand the country our students deserve. We're standing up for a future we all want to live in.

Congratulations to Ric Calhoun, NEA's 2026 ESP of the Year!
Ric goes above and beyond to create a positive learning environment for all students. He embodies the core values of education support professionals and their indispensable contribution to our schools. Thank you for all that you do, Ric!
Introducing new tools into the classroom should always be educator-led. On National AI Literacy Day, educators—not for-profit companies—are leading in using AI to innovate teaching streamline learning.
Technology works best when guided by those who know students best.

Today marks #EqualPayDay—the day this year that women's earnings finally catch up to men's from the year before.
It is unacceptable that the gap remains so wide in 2026. We can—and must—do more to end pay inequality.
