The children, ages 12 and 15, and their father were taken Monday morning by ICE agents who pulled them over near a mobile home park at the edge of town.
coloradosun.com/2025/10/28/p...
An anonymous officer was caught on video throwing a woman to the ground during a peaceful protest outside the ICE field office in Durango.
Dozens of protesters remained Tuesday after demonstrating through the night over the detainment of two children and their father on the way to school.
If you're a queer Texas author of adult or YA fiction & you have one of your books on hand that you'd like to sign & donate to a silent auction bundle for Equality Texas, DM me?
The event is Nov 15th so it would need to get in the mail ASAP, or in Austin area I can pick up.
Reposts appreciated! 🏳️🌈

You may not know this but this book was actually written for me specifically. 10/10 no notes
so the process of writing is a process of realizing how imperfect and incomplete that idea was, and actually working out all the rest of it. writing, in other words, is a process of thinking: a particularly disciplined one, that takes you from a warm feeling to a genuine reality.
the WHOLE THING about writing is realizing that you don't "already" have "the whole thing" in your head. when it's just an idea that warm feeling smooths over all the gaps. but you've got a germ. a seed. there are *so many choices* left to make--real, hard, meaningful, creative choices.
/end niche rant for today
singletracks Home / Mountain Bike Trails / United States / Utah / News 8 mountain bikers brutally injured during Red Bull Rampage 2025 Are the injuries worth it? Many of the competitors seem to think so.
I mean, do the riders think it’s worth it or are they obligated by their sponsors to go to all the big events in their sport each season? www.singletracks.com/community/8-...
And it’s absurd that social media sites are censoring videos in which these injuries occur while still allowing other videos of the events to proliferate. We can’t lobby for better safety culture as long as we’re projecting this fantasy world where athletes can do these wild feats with zero risk.
The bros on the internet arguing like “well if we added safety features it wouldn’t be the same sport” and “the riders know the risk” cool so we’re allowing athletes to risk potentially avoidable life-altering or ending injuries *checks notes* on principle?
increasingly convinced that the red bull sporting events are just IG content farms with very real human injury “collateral damage.” the safety culture is like, nonexistent.
Cover of Cuckoo by Gretchen Felker-Martin, with an image of a nest of broken eggs, plus one shiny unbroken egg, at center.
Literature. Revels in the nastiest parts of the physical in a way that a) I think is really difficult to sustain in writing and b) also rewrites and amplifies the pleasurable elements in contrast. + a really well-crafted ensemble cast.
I don’t know why I thought Reddit would be a good place to find a thoughtful, considered book review 🤡
dark blue cover of Turn of the Screw by Henry James. mostly text with an illustration of a keyhole at center.
I'm calling it on Turn of the Screw as a dnf, unfortunately. simply was not vibing with the style, life is too short, my to-read list too long, &c.
Cover of Hungerstone by Kat Dunn
First: Hungerstone! Billed as a feminist Carmilla retelling—definitely historical fiction with modern sensibilities, plus excellent historical research backing. Messy women characters, gory and lovely.
doing a thread of my spooky season* reads!

today! top of the hour! free! come learn about editing :)
Haha a pickle’s a pickle!
Very compelled by the pickle situation here
And! Even if we only consider modern internet-based fandoms, which most people seem to mean, there’s SUCH a wide variety of approaches and styles—just like in any other type of fiction—that it just seems a bit silly to blame entire (often vilifed) prose trends on ~the rise in fandom~.
someday we will be free of the "writing fanfiction makes you a bad writer" stigma

but I’m reminding myself that if nothing else, this will at least be a really good, visceral reminder for me of the vulnerability of sitting on the Other side of the editing desk
Just inquired with a developmental editor about working on a novella I drafted, and I’m feeling Terrified! And! Mortified!
I had a great chat with @wordrake.bsky.social about something business leaders need to hear: AI can't replace editors, but can change what we need editors for. If you care about whether your writing actually works, you still need a human editor. Read the interview now: zurl.co/XI0xO. #BizTips
