In a world struggling to untangle itself from the influence of greed, hatred and disrespect, watch the spontaneous embrace of the diverse Artemis crew in support of their commander in their naming of a lunar landmark after his late wife.

Humanity, excellence, support, exploration, decency, love. 🌖

@daraobriain.bsky.social I would just love it if some engineer saw there was an issue and thought
I’VE ONE OF THEM IN A BOX IN THE SHED!! and legged it out the fire escape. Every Irish father ever vindicated. “Don’t throw that away..”

I’m more nervous than the #ArtemisII crew. Their patience and calm under pre launch pressure is phenomenal. 🚀

Thanks a lot for your help! 🚀

Is there a central site to access these resources? I’m a teacher in Ireland and I’d love to access up to date digital resources for my class of 11 year olds. They make such a difference to the learning experience!

A colourful field of stars sprinkled across purple ionised gas and redder dust. The main cluster of stars is seen in a cavity to the upper right, while a very bright source surrounded by more gas and dust is seen in the lower left corner, with the characteristic six bright spikes due to diffraction in the optics of JWST. With a credit line in the lower-left corner that reads "Sharpless 305 & RAFGL5232 with JWST NIRCam / Credit: Mark McCaughrean, MPIA / NASA, ESA, CSA"

Sneak preview 👀

More of our #JWST data are going public tomorrow, for the galactic star-forming region Sharpless 305 & nearby massive protostar RAFGL5232.

Work in progress, as the data are rather problematic 😬

But as others will be quick to post images, here's our snapshot first 😉

I guess they’ll need a summer job. 😁 I don’t see NASA/ESA etc needing to confirm the safety of taking kids to space anytime soon so the private space bus is the only realistic route.

@astroreidwiseman.bsky.social Wishing you and the crew all the very best from myself and the 11 year old kids I teach here in Ireland Reid! We’re watching the progress very closely and looking forward to launch!

@drkevinfong.bsky.social Hey Kevin! I got a good Q from one of the kids I teach this week here in Ireland. I told them I’d pass it on 😁 Will ethical concerns always proclude a child from travelling to space if there’s a scientific reason and the child(ren), who have parental consent, really want to?

@mattcooperlastword.bsky.social Matt I’ve convened the advisory council and we’ve agreed on a new podcast with 3 presenters.. Yourself, Sen. Lynn Ruane and Leo Varadkar. That would be worth a listen!!

If the media could do one thing to grow the Irish language, it would be to slow down the tempo and allow learners to absorb the meaning. Making info campaigns bilingual as opposed to two different versions would be helpful. Ba chĂłir dĂșinn tacĂș le foghlaimeoirĂ teanga dĂograiseacha #rtept #aras25

Our system is complicated. We’ve two odd class breaks and two even class breaks. The odd class teachers stick on the odd schedules and the evens stick to theirs. Staff like the principal though move between all 4 break slots so I’ll put the principal in as half hours staff on both odd & even.

10 months ago 0 0 0 0

So set it up as if the principal for example was on half hours for run 1 and half on run 2?

Simon this is unreal. Thank you! We run split breaks so the odds go out at 10, evens at 10:30 for example. SET/DP/P could be on duty on any of the 4 yards in a given day. Can this be managed by the software?

Change in Paris air quality between 2007 and 2023 using visuals

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people.

Good trade.

@drkevinfong.bsky.social Hey Kevin, Richie here in Ireland. I was in touch a while back about being a primary teaching space / STEM addict. 13 Mins is still my go to. It was a profoundly important piece of work. I was delighted to support 16 Sunsets and really enjoying it. Keep up the great work!

@mattcooperlastword.bsky.social Matt I’d love to hear yourself and Ivan talk about Waterford Airport. We’re crying out for state investment that would help revitalise the south east. There’s investors (council & consortium) ready and yet because it’s not Cork or Dublin it’s slow walked.

.. Christina Koch & Jessica Meir the first astronauts to complete an all female EVA.. Peggy Whitson, Suni Williams and Samantha Cristoforetti who’ve commanded the space station. There are so many better opportunities for the media to honour and focus on female astronauts.

There are brilliant female astronauts who have studied hard, battled and qualified to hold that title and role. Thinking of Judith Resnik, Kalpana Chawla, and Christa McAuliffe who gave their lives for science.

Reading a book that’s as dull as dishwater at the moment and yet it has won significant literary awards. Similar experience last year. Either I’m a bit less refined than I think or there’s a mutual ‘wonderful dahling’ vibe from some of the literary award judging. đŸ€”

Positive of the rain in Andalusia is the restoration of the reservoir lakes. Vinuela was at 13% when I saw it and it was heartbreaking to see the jetty surrounded by scrub and hard clay. Now at 45%. Locals told me water hungry Avocado planting was a real issue. Habitat now slowly recovering.

It would also irk the influences in Cork and Dublin who feel facilitating growth in a region they feed off would lead to less money going their way.. and to be honest.. couldn’t you say the same about the UHW and SETU? (You couldn’t.. it’d break the Corkman’s code!)

It would revitalise the south east economy while allowing people who travel to Dublin Airport reluctantly to fly from closer to home, helping alleviate pressure in the capital.
