Can we talk for a minute? Everyone saying to 'stop supporting authors on KDP,' consider: KDP does not charge fees like D2D now does to just have your book up. KDP will be the affordable option for people like me, who are disabled and poor. Please still buy books from indies on Amazon.

This is truly sickening behaviour.
How many authors with no active books are going to be met with this fee?
How many indies barely ever selling books are going to be punished extra?
Who at @draft2digital.bsky.social thought this was going to be a good move??
How to turn your site into a ghosttown
It's infuriating π
The latter exactly π
I have them so readers have more options (cos of how they can scream "amazon bad") but they don't actually shop elsewhere π not in the same amount that is π©π©
The link, should you need it;
draft2digital.com/contact/
I've already contacted them.
Esp when they already take a % of the sales!
Like, consider a price per book, $1 a book a year if under $10? That way small indies are prob okay and those AI grifters dumping 100 slop works be sweating bullets
I'm gonna wait to see if the backlash will make them reconsider the yearly fee cos it's fucking BS π€
If it stays, I should close it too cos it ain't worth the cost for # books I sell a year π I'll just figure out how to join kobo & maybe reconsider ingram despite earlier failure at account creationπ«
This π
I just went people to read my stories, why does it have to cost me?? They already take a chunk of the money as it is. "O-oh, you didn't make ENOUGH money for us to take from, better start coughing up extra yourself!"
So wanting to go wide as an indie is now going to cost you money unless you make at least $100 bucks in a year.
I can barely reach the fucking $20 needed to get a payout π₯²
Wtf is this bullshit ππ

5 star review reading: I just put this book down, and βWOWβ is all I can say. I didnβt know what to expect going into this other than a dark fantasy full of polyamory and queer themes, but thatβs just from what I know about the author. This book takes the reader into a dark fantasy world where men arenβt what they seem, human servants are disposable commodities, and love is found in the most unlikely of places. Whatever youβre thinking, this book will take you elsewhere. You wonβt expect it, but youβll love the ride. The mystery behind the darkness is worth wading into it, and the intrigue behind every twist and turn will have you turning the page with anticipation, wanting more. Shimaira has penned a frightening story with BDSM aspects and polyamorous love, all with consent at the front and center. There are content warnings for this book that one should heed, but it is a lot of bloody fun. ~ Daniel Aegan

LitRPG is a ... genre def not for everyone.
It's def not for me despite the fact that I'm a gamer. I just... Games are games and books are books. You can even have game books but immersive? LitRPG breaks immersion for me.
ππππ
As you should cos life's too short to waste reading books you don't enjoy.
The standout list being longer is a good sign at least β₯
and it's fun π the several reviews of yours I read made me laugh π they're engaging and indeed feel "real" in the sense that you're just having a conversation over some cookies and tea/coffee and <here's the latest gossip> π
Some people are truly talented with how they weave wordsπ I know I won't ever be such a person though, so I'm not even gonna tryπ I'll just write how I write. A friend of mine tried really hard to write in a certain style/voice, but that made writing soβ¦slow & taxing. Took all the joy out of it π
>eye colour, you might figure out an important detail π come back to this after you finish the book hehe
ah lmao π yeah if they start popping up EVERYWHERE it gets annoying. For me, it didn't stand out cos <gestures at all other characters with other eye colours and hair>
And I do mention eye colours of other important characters you'll hopefully notice later ποΈ
If you pay close enough attention to>
>> context. I hope you'll enjoy all the other "period suitable" cuss words (instead of find them annoying lol--it can go both ways π)
I am seriously flattered about the ESL/EFL remark as I do my best but also realise that, unlike some authors, I did not get any "extra" English classes or degree π
haha I'll take the compliments & fully accept the roasts ππ (I fully confess: I went for green cos I find it pretty, same as for the red hair π I regret nothing!)
I looked up some old English for cussing to help get the medieval vibes down a bit more π "scite" also just sounds fun to me in this >>
Cats are the best and I already have plans on ensuring my MCs kitty (in a different story, WIP) gets taken along to the demon world and barely ages there cos <magic>
50 year old cat as fit as a 5yo kitty? You bet! πππ I'm the author, I make the rules π
Oh, there will be more blood and stuff, no worries π
No cats getting harmed EVER
I love cats
I will never hurt a cat in my stories π€
Can't remember ever having written about beetles so... You're good π
Hmm something's cooking π₯π
I'm getting roasted here π
I know π that's why I joked (I meant to imply her actual organ was on display, hence gore, for anyone stumbling and going "wtf??")
Having this discussion in dms and in public might be a tad confusing ππ
