Any army before 1900 that had our current rate of sickness and disease would absolutely annihilate their opponents, even if completely restricted to the technology available at the time.

Monterey Park becomes the first city in California to ban "all data centers within city limits" Residents of the small enclave east of LA not only killed their city's proposed 250,000 square foot data center, they pushed city council to ban them altogether

Last night, after an hours-long public hearing, Monterey Park became the first city in California to pass an ordinance permanently banning data centers.

The city council voted unanimously to declare data centers a public nuisance, and to "prohibit all data centers within city limits."

Players don’t want to live in OKC but all you ever hear from guys once they get there is how well they’re treated and how professional the org is. When you’re a non-glamour market like that (or Portland) you have to win on that stuff to even have a chance at keeping players.

Wife of active-duty U.S. Army soldier detained by ICE in Texas at immigration appointment The wife of a sergeant first class was detained by ICE at an immigration appointment in Texas. He says he doesn't understand why, and "ICE is out of control right now."

You cannot hate ICE enough. “Ortega was summoned to the El Paso immigration office for an interview related to an application for a special program designed to offer deportation protections to military spouses or parents who are in the U.S. without legal status.“ www.cbsnews.com/news/ice-det...

FCC chair Brendan Carr, who has threatened to revoke the licenses of broadcast outlets whose Iran war coverage displeases him, plans to attend the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as a guest this Saturday.

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

Discriminatory language from a century ago still exists in some Tulsa property records Tulsa’s midtown neighborhoods have a history of discriminatory housing. But residents can get that property language removed.

Hidden in fine print, discriminatory language from a century ago still exists today in some Tulsa, Oklahoma, property records

Just had a guy confidently argue that Chicago doesn't have pollution like LA despite having similar populations and that means they don't need all their strict air quality regulations and this dude has never heard of an inversion layer. I need to lie down

Army survivors of deadly attack in Kuwait dispute Pentagon's account, say unit "was unprepared" to defend itself Survivors of an Iranian attack that killed six U.S. service members have disputed the Pentagon's description of events and said their unit in Kuwait was left dangerously exposed.

This is some of the most important reporting to come out of the war on Iran so far. And it's nice to see CBS doing it, i.e good reminder that bad leadership doesn't mean that every journalist there instantly stops doing their job.

Columbia suspended, expelled, and retroactively revoked degrees in proceedings that were so arbitrary and capricious they were overturned by a NY state judge. Literally the only evidence Columbia submitted came from sealed records of dismissed arrests—records that Columbia shouldn't have even had.

The Corpus Christi Water Crisis Isn't Exceptional. It's Early. When drought cycles outpace infrastructure planning, a water emergency is not a surprise—it’s a forecast.

Lake Corpus Christi stands at just over 9% capacity, and Choke Canyon Reservoir, the city’s other primary source, is below 8% full. A formal Level 1 water emergency, requiring mandatory cuts across all users, could be declared as early as May.

I expect a lopsided majority of justices to evince skepticism of Trump's executive order against birthright citizenship during today's oral arguments at the Supreme Court, and I suspect the ruling will be at least 7–2 against Trump.

One wrinkle is some justices may prefer a statutory holding...

Love to campaign for a seat in the House of Representatives standing in front of a sign announcing (falsely) that the elections are rigged and so your vote won’t matter unless Oregonians vote to eliminate the vote by mail system which is beloved by the vast majority of them.

The fight for trans kids isn’t over. It’s just not. The Court did not rule that conversion therapy bans are unconstitutional yesterday.

It just didn’t. Anyone saying otherwise is helping the conservative legal movement to mollify people.

Peace out.

I really wish people would try harder to confirm that the drones actually existed in this case before hanging big think pieces around them, IMO.

I do think it *matters* that we have a clear-eyed view of the actual threat profile.

I am losing my mind every time I see a "defense reporter" talking about the US not understanding/caring about/focusing on/adapting for small UAS

Of course we should take counter UAS seriously and investigate these incidents, but there sure seems to be a pattern here of “spinning up periodic public Mystery Drone Freakouts out over what largely appears to be nothing.”

Which I also don’t think is all that helpful!

Occam’s razor might suggest that: if you’ve been seeing Scary Mystery Drones over your military bases at night for years, your fanciest tech can’t detect them, and also nothing bad ever seems to happen as a result…..they may not actually be drones.

Call me crazy.

You really can just replace “UFOs” with “drones” in these recent drone freakout stories and they’d be unchanged.
