Finally, I’m with artists on this one. Sure you can get an LLM to produce you a picture. But where’s the spark of creativity? The “I”? I don’t want statistically likely art thank you. Same for code. Good programming is an art. I want more Geoff Crammonds, Ian Bells and Joffa Smiths please.

The peak, ironically, was around November 2024.
Intel announced the 8087 floating-point chip in 1980. Now I have a blog post that explains a small part of the microcode in this chip.

"More than a million people had canceled Disney streaming subscriptions as of Monday, the Disney source told me, and the company likely knew that trend would only continue the longer they kept Kimmel silenced."
@marisakabas.bsky.social w/ a doozy. 👀
The cover for the book 'Why Q Needs U' by Danny Bate
With pride, joy and a great deal of nerves, I'd like to reveal the cover for my book 'Why Q Needs U'!, published by @bonnierbooksuk.bsky.social!
I love the cover, with the endorsement from its first reviewer, who also called it "a wonderful achievement" and "just couldn't recommend it more highly".

Three large electrolytic capacitors, Mallory (35,000µF 50V), Nichicon (22,000µF 35V), Kemet (30,000µF 25V) in a homage to the Class sketch from the Frost Report. Class Sketch (The Frost Report, 1966) Cleese: (In bowler hat, black jacket and pinstriped trousers) I look down on him (Indicates Barker) because I am upper-class. Barker: (Pork-pie hat and raincoat) I look up to him (Cleese) because he is upper-class; but I look down on him (Corbett) because he is lower-class. I am middle-class. Corbett: (Cloth cap and muffler) I know my place. I look up to them both. But I don’t look up to him (Barker) as much as I look up to him (Cleese), because he has got innate breeding. Cleese: I have got innate breeding, but I have not got any money. So sometimes I look up (bends knees, does so) to him (Barker). Barker: I still look up to him (Cleese) because although I have money, I am vulgar. But I am not as vulgar as him (Corbett) so I still look down on him (Corbett). Corbett: I know my place. I look up to them both; but while I am poor, I am honest, industrious and trustworthy. Had I the inclination, I could look down on them. But I don’t. Barker: We all know our place, but what do we get out of it? Cleese: I get a feeling of superiority over them. Barker: I get a feeling of inferiority from him, (Cleese), but a feeling of superiority over him (Corbett). Corbett: I get a pain in the back of my neck.
I am Mallory, I used to be part of a mini-computer. I look down on them.
I am Nichicon, I look up to him because he is bigger than a can of beans, but I look down on him because he didn't even come with screws or a mounting bracket.
I am Kemet. I know my place.
I’m just happy that folk still appreciate old computers, be it the games, the culture, or the hardware. I live for the relative simplicity and ingenuity of old electronics, and the software that drives them.
A die photo of the Intel 386 processor. It looks a bit like an aerial photo of a weirdly-zoned city, with rectangular blocks of various textures in a complicated arrangement. The functional units of the chip are labeled. In particular, the Prefetch Unit is near the upper left corner. A large red rectangle is labeled Prefetch Queue.
Anyone use Intel's 386 processor from 1985, the first 32-bit x86? To improve performance, it preloaded instructions into a 16-byte prefetch queue (highlighted in red). Why does such a small queue take up so much of the chip? Let's look under the microscope at its complicated circuitry... 1/N
When you make a Monty Python co-founder laugh out loud. 💕
Making a mental note to amend my will to ensure no one tries any of this Black Mirror nonsense after I’ve died.
Thanks to every one who helped me to raise funds for drone defense and (with Mark Hamill) mine clearing robots and (with Slawek Sierakowski) evacuation vehicles. You saved lives. We will keep going.
Watching this at the mo. Used to watch Horizon a lot as a kid.

REPORTER: Amazon will soon display a number next to the price of each product that shows how much the Trump tariffs are adding. Isn't that a perfect demonstration that it's the American consumer who is paying for these policies?
LEAVITT: This is a hostile and political act by Amazon.
Tweet from JD Vance: "Today I met with the Holy Father Pope Francis. I am grateful for his invitation to meet, and I pray for his good health."
Could JD Vance please also pray for the good health of Vladimir Putin?
Wow, I now have 2,500 followers! Thank you for following me and reading my posts. It's great being able to interact with you about the golden age of game development and hopefully give you an insight into how games were made. Plenty more to come. Please share this post or add me to you Starter Packs
Loving the posts - thanks! Keep 'em coming!
Yeah, they've got information at their fingertips - anytime, anywhere. And no R Tape loading errors.
So it was just the original Sinclair manual for the instruction set, and nights and nights of disassembling and studying games. Happy days!
Thanks for the tip. I didn't know that book. Back in the day in communist Czechoslovakia there were no books available - at least until ’88 or ’89, when an official (but apparently illegal) translation of O'Hara’s and Logan's book was published.
Bought it a couple of years ago and enjoyed it almost as religiously as The Complete Spectrum ROM Disassembly. A must-read - not just for those of us who spent their best years coding in Z80 assembly...
Anyone who knows anything about cyberattacks knows that “IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area” means absolutely nothing, as far as attribution goes.
a photo of a chip overlaid with red and blue wiring in CAD
a jumbled pile of logic gates on a very large schematic. it's totally unreadable.
it took a month, but i've reverse engineered this IBM MCGA gate array chip. 17,000 transistors. 768 gates. over 1200 nets.
Well said!
This is Marco Rubio explaining how the USA promised to defend Ukraine forever if they got rid of their nuclear arsenal left after the Soviet Union fell.
This is why lil marco was sinking into the couch. He was hoping we wouldn’t find it…so don’t RT right now this very second.
