In Passing
By Lisel Mueller
How swiftly the strained honey
of afternoon light
flows into darkness
and the closed bud shrugs off
its special mystery
in order to break into blossom
as if what exists, exists
so that it can be lost
and become precious

Fish Market, 1627. Brilliant work by Jacob Cuyp, whose day is today. Fish seller & woman stare at each other. Maid in red stares at you.

The Simpsons can only exist in societies that are dumb enough to be mockable but smart enough not to collapse. This narrow “Goldilocks zone” of balanced idiocy is fragile and rare across the galaxy. Most planets invent The Simpsons right before destroying themselves

In 2009, TV Land did a massiv esinging, dancing tribute to Sid and Marty Krofft, choreographed by the legendary Toni Basil, which for the Gen Xers among us while bring back many warm memories.
RIP, Sid, you gave us a lot of messed-up joy in the 1970s.

Love this shot of PAUL NEWMAN and JOANNE WOODWARD in 1955.
They were husband & wife for 50yrs, which is really something in general - but in Hollywood (when both were incredibly beautiful too!) is nothing short of astounding.

I think a 20 minute session of doing an expressionist painting of Bert was the break down I needed to have today.

This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

Full shot of a large collection glass vessels, all of which have flaws, cracks and missing parts etc
Various types of glasses are present, including goblets, tumblers, small bowls, and footed cups. The glasses are in a variety of colors, including translucent and opaque shades of green, light teal, blue, and even some with hints of a white/gray color.
Fascinating world of #glass: Glass vessels from the 16th and early 17th century, found in a latrine in Ulm.
Latrines were commonly used for waste disposal.
