This is fun! Here is how a BBC news team covered a new, "modern" Swedish town in 1956! Nowadays, Vällingby has been eaten up by Stockholm but this is a fun look back at what a cool new town looked like back then, along with some interesting social commentary.

New episode out now! 👑
We've made it to episode 100 at last! In it, we will witness the first true Arab siege of Constantinople amidst an atmosphere of cooling expansion and consolidation for the largest state the world has yet seen.
Yes, they get around! It's a really interesting topic to look into.
We have a new episode of Flatpack out and Karl is heading to Estonia and Livonia. Things go bad enough for him to need to head back with some Scottish mercenaries, but what else will he get up to in this foreign policy focused episode?
Flatpack is buying flatpacks 😄
We needed some bookcases for our ever growing podcast research library and of course we went to the mothership of Swedish furniture shops.
Likewise ❤️ Glad we could be a part of this episode!
If you listen to Jerry's latest episode, you will hear some familiar voices!
Always a pleasure to feature briefly on a great podcast like Presidencies of the United States 🇺🇸 😊
It's Sunday and time for a new episode of Kingdom 🥳
Erik of Pomerania ascends the throne of not just Sweden, but the whole Kalmar Union. He soon learns that keeping the three kingdoms together is like herding cats... Good thing he has his English wife Queen Filippa to help him out!
Happy Easter! We have a new Flatpack episode for you 🐣
Karl has taken over Sweden, but now he needs to root out the traitors. How can he do it? A few bloodbaths, perhaps?
Karl has consolidated his power in Sweden after kicking out Sigismund, but he's still a bit worried that not everyone is loyal to him. It's time to tour the kingdom and root out potential traitors...
We'll explain the why, how, when and what tomorrow on a new episode of Flatpack!
There is indeed 😊 From 51:00 in episode 31. There we talk about Adrian coming to Scandinavia and what he did. Not in lots of detail, but we mention it a bit.
New episode out now! 👑
It's a time of civil war with the Second Fitna in full swing and only one man can restore the Umayyads to power. Join for a story of political machinations, family ties, and the only true legitimacy.
Today is skärtorsdagen in Sweden. The Thursday in the Easter week is when, according to Swedish folkloric tradition, witches fly to Blåkulla (an island near Gotland) to dance with the devil 🧙♀️ 💃 🕺 😈
Hence we sometimes put up little witch decorations in our homes 😊
In particular the stone is a recognition of fact that police troops were allowed to be trained in Sweden and could then be moved into Norway and take over as the war ended and Nazi occupation fell apart.
Speaking of Djurgården, a few days ago Åsa was there and spotted this memorial stone in front of the Norweigan embassy: The stone expresses Norway's thanks to Sweden for support to the resistance during World War II.
Yesterday we sailed into Stockholm past one of our favourite, even if a bit underwhelming historical buildings.
It is the old customs house on Djurgården that ships needed to register at on the way into the city, built in 1727! It's looking good as always.
Margareta Part Two is out and what a ruler she was! We conclude her epic story and try to judge her blockbuster life and reign... A tough challenge!
She is looking good for Stormakt and Flatpack, but will the rest of her story mean she ends up on top or will she be remembered as an average ruler?
Last night we went to an excellent talk at the @Sjohistoriska museum in Stockholm about Saint Barthélemy, an island in the Caribbean which for nearly 100 years was a Swedish slave colony. Thanks to Prof. Fredrik Thomasson for the great discussion!
We're Chris and Åsa, with two podcasts about Swedish history with episodes out every Sunday!
A Flatpack History of Sweden covers Swedish history from the Stone Ages to today, now covering the 1600s after over 125 episodes.
In Kingdom, we judge and rank all the kings, queens and regents of Sweden!
Half of Flatpack was at a pub quiz this evening (and didn't win)! One question was "Which year did Gustav Vasa become king of Sweden?"
How many listeners can remember the year?
Approaching 100!! 🤠
We're happy to be back too 🥳 Maybe we can take up A History of Norway when we're done with Flatpack in about 2035...!
Glad you're enjoying it! We're super excited to be back and who knows, if nobody has started a History of Norway when we're done with Flatpack in c.2035, we could do it... 😄
Flatpack is back! 🥳
We jump back into the timeline with a recap of one our current main characters, Duke Karl. We look at how his upbringing as a son of Gustav Vasa and watching two of his brothers mess up being king prepared him for fighting his nephew for the throne.
It's time for the 1600s!
Det gör vi 🥳💪
This Sunday A Flatpack History of Sweden returns!🥳
Since it's been a while, we're going to catch up with our current main character, Duke Karl, who's just taken over ruling Sweden. Let's see if he lives up to his father Gustav Vasa's legacy as we move into the 1600s
Last night, we went to a lecture on the history of the office of Prime Minister in Sweden at the library of @sverigesriksdag.bsky.social
One of the speakers was top historian Gunnar Wetterberg, whose work we use a lot for the podcast. He also has a great skånska accent just like Åsa 😊
Glad you liked it too; we learned a lot as well about this part of the story. Nice cameo at the end too, as you say! 😃
Last night was movie night at Flatpack HQ 🎬
The Swedish Connection is a humorous retelling of a partly true story: a small department of the Swedish Foreign Office decides to wage a bureaucratic war against the Third Reich to do what they can to rescue Jews in the midst of WWII. Highly recommend it
We're finally covering a woman on Kingdom! 👸
Margareta is the first woman to take the reins in Sweden. Born in Denmark, married to a King of Norway and then invited to take over in Sweden, she is a true Nordic force of power. So much so that this'll be the first part of her story.
