My own fellowship at CSTE was modeled after the EIS, placing bright new epidemiologists in state and local public health departments. As year-1 fellows, we're worried that we'll also lose our dream positions. My heart goes out to all of the EIS Officers impacted by this devastation 💔 3/3

These folks are cream-of-the-crop epidemiologists who intentionally took this low paying fellowship so they can serve their community. They're bright, eager public health professionals, the literal opposite of the Republican caricature of the "lazy government bureaucrat." 2/3
I'm heartbroken to learn that the entire year-1 class of Epidemic Intelligence Service Officers were fired today. The EIS Officers are CDCs "disease detectives" who respond to outbreaks in hot zones, putting their own lives in danger to protect public health 1/3
The public health workforce is NOT ok, y'all. Check on your friends in public health
Fair point. As a state public health employee, I just can't imagine how upsetting this is for the CDC folks to be forced to do 😥
Don't blame the folks at CDC - they're being virtually forced at gunpoint to do this. Protest at the White House, and call your lawmakers demanding that they don't confirm RFK Jr.
Your state and local health departments will still be disseminating this info for your state. Not perfect, but better than nothing
Today is the first week since 1960 that CDC has not released its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. While we, in public health, are actively watching avian flu and several unusual patterns of disease, this is devastating.
Your state health department will be incredibly important during this time. Depending on which state you live in, of course
No - CDC hasn't even been able to inform state HHS officials as to why they're not on scheduled calls today. Radio silence
The destruction of Health and Science
💥NIH grant funding review panels canceled.
Without them, NIH cannot fund research.
💥US to pull funding from the WHO.
💥CDC, FDA, NIH, and HHS told to pause all communications, incl health advisories, weekly sci reports, websites, social media posts.

Weird that we have to say this, but the government doesn’t get to decide what gender a person is.
Great news! I got a new job! It’s full time, in the tech industry, and my position involves increasing revenue through engagement. Downside is there is no pay. It’s just refreshing apps in terror of what’s to come.
how did h*tler build the time machine before we did?
As a public health epidemiologist, and also a human with basic empathy, I'm struggling to not feel depressed about the state of the US right now. Anyone have any morale boosters for me?
