Very happy to have found your moment on Saturna here. I led sea kayaking trips out of Camp Orkila on Orcas. We'd check into customs at Bedwell on Pender, then do a stop on Saturna, but it was never enough Saturna time for me. Perhaps you have more pics or a story to share for me to reminisce upon.

I'm pleased you shared. I've been thinking about mothers lately. My mother especially. She raised three boys, and lost one before she passed.

In the foreground, among some rocks and sand on a ridge, is a small alpine heather blooming, behind which is a dramatic mountain scene of a glacier, a granite bowl surrounded by cliffs, and an adjacent peak of snow and rocky aretes. The background shows more mountains amongst the lifting clouds and some spots of blue sky.

The clouds lifted and we came upon the home of an alpine flower nestled in the rocky soil of an exposed ridgeline. Way out there, the existential contrast of a creature so fragile alongside the geologic scale of the place, it fractured me. A million selves all feeling and looking everywhere at once.

This song came out the year my parents got a divorce and my mom would play it over and over. It's a great example of how music is so emotionally provocative that even 48 years after these moments it can shake us at our core.
