I Played 'The Boys Are Back in Town' on a Bar Jukebox Until I Got Kicked Out The boys were back in town, but I was out of the bar, because they asked me to leave.

on the 50th anniversary of the release of The Boys Are Back in Town I'm morally obligated to share my favorite story of all time

double annoying if you use the Shop app to track packages -- completely breaks the feature where you can forward an email to them and have them automatically track it

Perhaps, I'm not convinced. That logo was created in November 2001, when CamelCase links were disfavored and about to be disabled entirely. So I feel like it was just about being symmetrical. I want to say I've seen other fancy scholarly lettering do the same thing, but I'm not finding examples.

Wikipedia:CamelCase and Wikipedia - Wikipedia

If the article had been titled "Earth", the software wouldn't have been able to tell it was in CamelCase, and thus it wouldn't be linked. So all articles had to have a second capital letter; the workaround for one-word titles was to capitalize the last letter. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiped...

In the original software that Wikipedia used, the only way to create a link to another article was by writing the name of that article in CamelCase. All article titles were written in CamelCase, with no spaces. This had many problems, one of which is shown in this EartH article.

the janky capitalization stuff they did in the early years of wikipedia to make links work is never not funny to me. we were just throwing stuff at the wall, no one had any idea what the internet was gonna be like long-term

i have no clue if it's any good; the idea sounds alright. yet all i see is endless posts about mass-blocking it. i don't understand -- is it all just a kneejerk reaction of "AI bad"? i've been scrolling through a bunch of posts trying to find an articulate reason to oppose it, but found nothing.

i'm trying to understand, what is all this hate for Attie about? it sounds like it's supposed to be a system to make it easier to find interesting humans to follow. that sounds... good? finding good accounts to follow has always been a struggle; i welcome new solutions

My rep is one of the only Democrats who wants Trump to be able to keep warmongering. I donated to his primary opponent, but it hardly matters; they just redrew the districts and it's almost certainly gonna flip red.

This is awesome! I have really been enjoying everything Kane has been covering so far -- exactly the kind of stuff I want to hear about in the city :)

It's never too late! And it's always getting easier -- there are so many things on Linux that ten years ago required a bunch of futzing, but today basically Just Work. The Steam Deck blew my mind -- it feels as simple and usable as any other video game console, but it's secretly also a Linux PC.

He said he was testing an AI tool, as I would expect an AI reporter to do, and he mixed up which text came from where. If someone is fully owning their screwup, not downplaying not deflecting, and it's the first time, I really believe in giving the benefit of the doubt. We've all screwed up before.

This seems like a totally plausible sequence of events, and I was glad to hear Ars did a review to determine this was a one-off. It is refreshing to see someone taking full responsibility for their error; it's become rare these days. Feel better soon!

without the description i literally wouldn't know if this was a half-life mod or a jak and daxter mod. wonderfully cursed video.

Definitely not giving them any ID documents, and will probably try to avoid doing anything at all, but if the video selfie option works then I might give in. I just know I'm not gonna convince my friends to set up a Matrix client or whatever, so like what are my other options?

well yeah, if democrats put up yet another uninspiring candidate and ask everyone to hold their nose again, they will surely lose again. trump wins by getting people excited and speaking to their anger. dems could do this too, but instead we run "let's just keep things as they are" over and over.

Looking at a Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's Locomotive Fireman's handbook and I love how they describe scientific principles of combustion to an audience of men who probably never graduated high school

There is a kernel of truth, in that I've seen some stories claiming "the files prove so-and-so was best friends with Epstein!", but if you read the emails, so-and-so was like six degrees removed from him. But that doesn't mean the files shouldn't be released; it means we need more/better journalism.

i'm a FOSS dweeb, but i don't really fault artists for not using less mature tools. what i would really like to see is more creative companies/pros putting money towards making FOSS tools better. it really wouldn't take much; e.g. blender thrives on like a €3M annual budget.

Also I frankly don't believe they knew he had a gun before they tackled him. In every angle I've seen, his coat completely concealed his holster while he was upright.
