The first page of Penguin paperback of THE GRAPES OF WRATH. At the top of the page is a note I wrote in high school, it reads: In winter the day pales by four o'clock.

I haven’t written a note in a book in years, but I love finding old ones. From my high school copy of THE GRAPES OF WRATH (a line NOT in The Grapes of Wrath, as far as I can tell). If the line is familiar, let me know…

Seems like this season we’re skipping the middle part of:

- The Mets suck.
- Wait, the Mets are actually good!
- No, the Mets actually suck.

I guess I can respect the efficiency and commitment to the single concept approach.

Happy 70th to @wruvfm.bsky.social aka God’s Hope For America. Not many things have had more of an effect on my life than that beautiful radio station in the basement of Billings. It gave me friends for life, an insatiable need for new music, and probably tinnitus. Some things that happened: 1/

The cover of my new novel manuscript. WEST, by Alex R Johnson.

The cover of my new novel manuscript. WEST, by Alex R Johnson.

Been trying to avoid talking about my writing out of fear that I’d get an endorphin boost from just talking. Now that it’s done, here goes. A west Texas bloodbath that takes place over a very chaotic 24 hour period. It’s tight + fast + I look forward to disturbing at least a few of you with it.

My superstar kiddo is raising money for the drama department at his high school and YOU have a chance to help. Buy some popcorn! Please! He smartly used a photo of himself as a child to pull on your heartstrings. I'm hoping it pulls on some pursestrings. Please buy some! s.dgpopup.com/9xu39f5h

The whole point of the FBI is to basically be so fucking prepared for whatever action you're about to take that you don't have to take out your gun or use force. What a clueless, performative fuck.

A Beautiful Day for a Neighbor: Tom Noonan (1951-2026) A personal tribute to a great actor, a great friend, and a gentle giant of a man.

"I looked up, and up, and up, and up, until I saw Tom Noonan's face, looking down at me with a curious expression. 'What did you say your name was?' he asked." A remembrance of my friend Tom, lost too soon. www.rogerebert.com/mzs/a-beauti...

Writing a scene in a cemetery and I'm realizing that my brain really does not like that last e in cemetery. It wants it to be an a. I have mispelled it at least 15 times (16 including the first attempt at writing this post). Adding it to the list of words my brain refuses to learn how to spell.

RIP TOM NOONAN
The only screenwriting class I ever took was w/Tom at his Paradise Factory Theater on 4th. I was so in love w/WHAT HAPPENED WAS (not to mention his acting - HEAT, MANHUNTER obvs) + was so intimidated to meet him. He was the person that made me believe in myself as a writer. 1/

Other folks will have deeper and more personal remembrances, but I will always hold on to that clear image of know who you are and bring it. Fold it in, every time, in all your work. He was a true, committed artist cut out of the Cassavetes cloth. He will be missed. End/
