Itoi: But so-called arcade games have a vibe similar to gay magazines. It's a closed world, a world outsiders don't understand, where like-minded people gather as their circle shrinks. Like narrowing concentric circles. So I think it's really important that what I did this time with MOTHER went in a different direction.

Shigesato Itoi back in 1989 casually calling arcade game fans homosexuals. If only he knew how right he was....

Pretty much anything from Nights would also work, but this one has always been my favourite:

Umm, turns out I may be dumb. There were more instructions on the back of the second sheet... looks they were meant for a memory card!

I somehow have a copy of the game, although with the stickers already used before i bought it. You could also optionally use Rulue instead for reset and dark prince for Power. Not sure where the 2 rectangular stickers would go. Either way, very cool idea!

Of course, it's still not as extra as in the new air riders, especially with the sheer volume of the unlocks lol (still, the rewards in my game are super worth it!)

To celebrate last week's release of Kirby Air Riders, here's something I, um, borrowed from the original for my game, Arcade Tease:
the checklist!
It serves both as a form of metaprogression, and also a way to get to know some of the more niche mechanics and ways to score #indiedev #gamedev

The dream would be to get this on the switch, since pixel art games tend to do well there

I feel like it's a bit too fast paced to be enjoyable on there unfortunately (and i'm not sure there would be a good place for the finger that would not obscure the action in some way). Definitely focusing on pc for now

Thank you so much! There are way more game types in the final game but they vary by stage (all with different scoring strategies).

Qix x Breakout. Although it's not shown in the video, if you manage to trap a brickblock with a fuse, you'll get additional points. #gamedev #pixelart #indiedev #arcade #screenshotsaturday #screenshotsunday

Love this one, for me the a-ha moment was when I figured out I should look at the enemy field too, made it a little easier to react (although i would not call myself good either)

The push to censor what kind of art can be purchased online and the supposed promise of Generative AI to revolutionize our relationship to art, to turn art into a funko-pop assembly line that is controlled by corporations and not artists: I think both of these are connected imo.

Outrun Coast 2 Coast is still one of the most fun times you can have in gaming. It's the GOAT of arcade racing. <3
Used to be problematic to run the PS2 version in PCSX2, but that's all been smoothed out now.

You will obviously not find too many menus in coin-op arcade games, but I wanted to have something emulating the neo-geo option menus or the home console ports of puyo puyo games. This lead me to the scrolling background, but that did not seem enough, so I added the little vignettes later.

Main menu in Arcade Tease. Stella and Comechu guide you through the options via the vignettes. They will also patiently wait for you to confirm the start of the game!

Though the animations for hyperspace are still WIP, they need to be more punchy imo

Stage 3-1 ⋆Glowing Garden⋆ in ARCADE TEASE .
BrickBlocks and PaperBikes will fill the field with projectiles, but you can seek respite in Hyperspace, which allows to effectively teleport through the field (while making you invincible).

Though I should mention that since the original is no longer hosted, this is a repost, so I cannot vouch for the safety of the website (it appears to be unprotected...)

So You Want To Be A Pixel Artist?

Hello! This is one tutorial I used a very long time ago as a kid. There are probably better ones nowadays, but I will always have the most affinity towards this one.

Comechu, the lost alien.
Meet Stella and Comechu!
Comechu - a lost alien invader comet, trying to rebuild their ship (the ARK AID), while surviving the chaos of modern human civilisation.
Stella - a misfit girl, just trying to help!

Hello Bluesky!
I'm developing ARCADE TEASE, an action game crossing over mechanics from 80s and 90s classics.
Use your tail to defeat enemies, build walls and clean up the playing field before it gets too unmanagable.
Embrace the chaos!
