Weird how we never hear things like "AUKUS is growing too fast for Australians to afford" or "negative gearing is growing too fast" or anything similar, huh

My kitchen sink has been running slow for months and in trying to fix it with a plunger, I created a bigger problem (we're talking minor flooding) that I managed to fix with rubber gloves and elbow grease and which also solved the original problem and I FEEL SO ALIVE!

My kid, telling me about their day at holiday care, dropped this gem: '...since I'm gonna be a nerd when I grow up...'
Going to repeat this until I'm hoarse:
The men who've broken the world didn't break it because they're autistic
They broke it because they're solipsistic, megalomaniacal cunts who've been allowed to amass inhuman volumes of money, power and influence, and nobody has made them stop
LOL I have a certain name muted so if It Does Happen, all I'll see are jokes and vague references, if I'm lucky.
This is so, so well-articulated.
This thread!
No greater love has a parent for their child than when the smell of cooking fish makes them vomit but they serve fish fingers anyway. 🤢
Still tickled by the fact that my high school created a 'Bicentennial Statement', a collection of A4 pages that students wrote about themselves, then made two copies and *submitted one copy to the State Library of NSW*.
It's still there. You can request to see it.
When I find time, I plan to.
Oh, yeah, that guy’s a real character. We summoned him from a novel using a ritual we found online. He’s miserable because the woman he was created to love doesn’t exist in our world. We don’t know how to send him back and we’re afraid of what would happen if he dies
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 96380:
If you want to convey someone's accent, just mention they have an accent. Use dialect words or phrases, or regional patterns of speech. You really don't need to write out all their speech phonetically.
Editing my third book in a row that heavily features the farming of sheep for wool. You heard it here first: sheep are the next big publishing trend.
A viral dog rescue from 2016 is now immortalized with a statue in Kazakhstan. When a dog fell into the Sayran reservoir, bystanders formed a human chain to pull him to safety. The statue is a reminder of the value of unity, solidarity and collective action. 14/10 for all
Harry Potter tattoo regret rate is an order of magnitude higher than regret for Gender Reassignment Surgery and yet no one has been brave enough to suggest we legislate Harry Potter tattoos.
The Albanese Government banned Iranians with valid Australian visas from entering the country, to stop them claiming asylum because of the war their Government supports.
Up to 7,200 people with visas had the door slammed shut when they most needed our help. It's a dog act.
Got a free MMR vaccine today because I was born long before it was added to the childhood schedule (though after it first became available) and was therefore never vaccinated for it.

A friend went round to his neighbours’ for Eid last night and apparently the wife slightly panicked about hosting white people because she disappeared for a couple of minutes and came back with half a pint of whisky for him. This, to me, is multiculturalism
Why do fiction writers love torturing their characters' eyebrows so much?
Photo of a cuneiform tablet fragment shaped a bit like an irregular diamond. It preserves nearly 20 incomplete lines of text separated by a horizontal ruling
There's a broken cuneiform tablet from the Old Babylonian period, nearly 4,000 years ago, which preserves a tiny portion of a dialogue between two friends.
It feels a bit like the conversations I've been having for the past week, so I wanted to share it.
The top visited post on my site this month highlights that there has been a key gap in explaining a core and basic concept in editing copy: scieditor.ca/2026/02/qa-w...
Turns out I've unintentionally (unwillingly) become the parent consultant on how my kid's school celebrates Autism Acceptance Day, so today when a member of the school exec approached me to talk about options for celebrating, I told them exactly why going blue for Autism again is a bad, bad idea.
DID YOU KNOW? In a novel, a long section in italics is the author’s way of telling readers they can skip that part.
Gonna hold on to this croissant metaphor for the rest of my creative life
